Principal's Message
Dear Ross Roadrunner Families,
Many thanks to our Ross PTA for coordinating our Back to School Picnic. We enjoyed a beautiful evening with a bountiful spread of delicious food.
Wishing all families who celebrate Rosh Hashanah a wonderful holiday.
REMINDER: NO JCC aftercare on Monday or Tuesday.
Please sign up for your Parent/Teacher Conference below. All families have a choice of an in-person conference or a virtual meeting on Microsoft Teams. Conferences are only 20 minutes, so please ensure you are running on time for your scheduled meeting.
Picture Day is October 14! Individual and class photos are taken for purchase and for our yearbook. See the attached flier below and note that your child must have a media release on file to be included in picture day.
Warm Regards,
Holly Searl, Principal
Parent Teacher Conferences
The majority of conferences will be held October 6, which is a "no school for students" conference day.

Chess Club
Morning Chess Classes
Before-school chess classes will be offered to Ross students again this year, taught by FIDE instructor Zivorad (Ziko) Djuric. The beginner class (grades K-2) will be on Tuesdays, and the more advanced class (grades 2-5) will be held on Thursdays. Ziko will meet students in front of the school at 7:55am.
The cost is the same as last year - $14 per student per class. To register, please email Ziko at zikochess@gmail.com.
School Year Academic Acceleration (SYAA)
Our before and after school offerings for academic support and enrichments offered by Ross staff are coming together and we will share a schedule in next week's bulletin. The schedule will begin the week of October 10. Academic support will be invitation only, with communication coming through Ms. Adams, our school psychologist and coordinator of tiered interventions. Please understand that our ability to offer classes is dependent on staff availability and interest and the space constraints of our building. If a class fills up, we will maintain a waiting list. There is no cost for any of the programming being offered.
LSAT
The Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) is a group of elected and appointed members that exists for every DCPS school. The team consists of parents, teachers, non-instructional school staff, and a community member to advise the principal on matters that promote high expectations and high achievement for all students. The first meeting (virtual) is Tuesday, September 27 at 5:00pm. Join on your computer, mobile app or room device
Thank you to the following parents and staff who have agreed to volunteer to serve on the Ross LSAT.

Open House Committee
We are seeking parent volunteers to help with our monthly Open House/School Tours for prospective families. If you are available to volunteer for one or more, please reach out to parent Shailee Adinolfi (shaileevaidya@gmail.com) and Ms. Segovia (graciela.segovia@k12.dc.gov)
Our first Open House event is Thursday, October 13 from 9:00-10:30am at Ross, in-person.
Emergency Drills
In addition to monthly fire drills, we practice a variety of other safety drills with students. All drills are pre-taught to each class by Mr. Shegda and practiced to alleviate any anxiety and to focus on working together calmly for everyone's safety. It is important that your emergency contact information for your child is correct and that the contact is someone in the area who could retrieve your child in case of emergency/parent reunification, showing ID that matches the name on the contact list.
You can support safety planning at home by ensuring your child knows a phone number for parent/caregiver, understands why/how to call 911, and has been informed about stranger danger.
We discussed these topics briefly when the MPD Officer Friendly program visited K-5 students during lunch on Thursday.
