WE Celebrate Community Partnerships
The Communications & Community Involvement Department along with district administrators and community members honored outstanding partnership work from the 2019-20 school year at a virtual WE Awards ceremony.
For the next several weeks, we’ll be highlighting each of the winners. Today, we honor Nancy Ryles Elementary School and its PTO for their Green Team effort.
Child Care Subsidy
Washington County has secured a grant through the federal CARES Act to provide child care subsidies to parents/guardians. The Beaverton School District will be distributing approximately $2.4 million to families who are eligible and apply for these funds.
The application window is now open to apply online for money to help cover some or all of your out-of-pocket child care expenses: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/child-care-subsidy
If you don’t have internet access, you can pick up a paper application at your school or the district Office (16550 SW Merlo Drive, Beaverton).
If you have questions, call 503-793-0408 or email child-care-subsidy@beaverton.k12.or.us. If you need interpretation or translation assistance only, please call our Multilingual Department at 503-356-3755.
The funds will be distributed until they are gone. It’s in your best interest to apply early.
Learning Options Virtual Open Houses
On Friday, November 6, Open House informational videos for our option schools — ACMA, BASE, ISB and Rachel Carson — will be available on their websites. Please contact the school that you are interested in for details.
For Raleigh Hills and Springville, there won’t be any open houses this year due to the phasing out of the K-8 model. If you are interested in applying as a 7th or 8th grader, please call the school for more information.
For more information and important dates, please visit the Learning Options webpage.
Middle School Boundary Adjustment Advisory Committee Recommendations
On Thursday, October 29, Superintendent Don Grotting heard from community members about the Middle School Boundary Adjustment. He will review the findings and recommendations of the MSBA Advisory Committee and make a final decision that will be announced on Friday, November 6. He will then present his decision to the School Board for consideration on November 30. The Board will give its final approval on December 14, as per Policy JC.
The Superintendent would like to thank the MSBA Advisory Committee members for their service and dedication to this difficult task. He also would like to thank the community for their engagement and participation throughout the process.
Safe Routes to School — Important Tips for Traveling Safely This Fall
On Sunday, November 1, daylight saving time ended, meaning it gets darker earlier. With shorter days this time of year, all road users should be extra alert. Here are some suggestions to help everyone keep safe:
Wear bright reflective clothing when walking or rolling.
Don’t assume people driving will see you. Make eye contact before crossing in front of vehicles.
Keep eyes and ears open, especially while crossing the street.
Cyclists should make sure to have lights and wear helmets. It’s the law.
Driving or biking? Use extra caution and slow down in the dark and rain. Be on alert for people on foot or on bikes at intersections, in crosswalks (marked and unmarked), in bike lanes and in school zones. And remember, don’t text and drive.
