Principal's note:
Thank you to Millis High School for hosting a fantastic 8th Grade Transition Night and Ice Cream Social! It was wonderful to learn about all the opportunities awaiting our students. A special shoutout to Mrs. Knabel, Mrs. Dunn, Mr. Nash, and the amazing student volunteers for making our 8th graders feel so welcomed and supported.
We also held a joyful Readers Celebration, complete with cookies and ice cream, to honor our top middle school readers. It was a celebration of our voracious readers, and we’re so proud of their dedication and love for books. We hope to make this the start of a new tradition!

Please consider donating new or gently used clothing in the collection boxes located by the Middle School Office or in the cafeteria. If you have any questions, feel free to email Talitha—her contact info is on the posters around the school and on the donation boxes.
Lastly, congratulations to our boys and girls track teams for an outstanding start to their season!

GRADE 6 UPDATE
Sixth graders showed incredible perseverance during last week’s ELA MCAS—way to go! We’re proud of their effort and focus. Students are now gearing up for an exciting trip to the McAuliffe Center in Framingham, where they’ll explore space in a planetarium show called “We Are Guardians” and take part in a simulated Mars mission.
In Social Studies, students are wrapping up the novel Reading the Bones by Gina McMurchy-Barber, learning about archaeology and the Coast Salish culture along the way. In ELA, students continue to independently read books of their choice while tracking their progress with annotations and a timeline. Last week, we also celebrated their hard work at our Readers Celebration hosted by Mrs. Cantoreggi, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Monaghan, Mrs. Rao, and Mrs. Hurley!
GRADE 7 UPDATE
Seventh graders are deep into their Expressions & Equations unit in math as they prepare for the upcoming Math MCAS on May 5 & 6. Keep up the great work!
In Spanish, students are beginning a new unit where they’ll learn how to ask and answer questions about the places they go in their free time—like the beach, the movies, or the mall. ¡Muy bien!
GRADE 8 UPDATE
It’s an exciting time for our 8th graders as they prepare for the transition to high school! Families were invited to join us for 8th Grade Transition Night and Ice Cream Social on Thursday, April 10. The evening kicked off with a welcome from 6:00–6:30 PM, followed by high school presentations from 6:30–8:00 PM.
In Spanish, immersion students are expanding their vocabulary related to extended family members and learning how to give affirmative commands. Meanwhile, non-immersion students are diving into vocabulary for amusement parks and practicing how to talk about upcoming plans using the near future tense.
Mark your calendars! The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 AM. Each student receives 4 guests.
Visit from the honorable Judge William Young
Millis Middle School had the honor of welcoming Judge William Young, grandfather of Isla and Mia Young, to speak to the 8th graders on March 19th. With Civics education in mind, Judge Young spoke about our nation's judicial system and did a Q & A session with students, offering his wealth of knowledge and experiences serving as a US District Court Judge for the state of Massachusetts since 1985.
