Here’s what our 5th graders are learning this week:
- Language Arts: Students will explore realistic fiction, focusing on identifying characteristics of the genre and analyzing stories with relatable characters and events.
- Social Studies: We are beginning our study of the Industrial Revolution in the United States. Students will learn how this period transformed the country and discuss its impact on daily life.
- Science: This week, students will model and describe the processes that lead to the formation of sedimentary rocks, deepening their understanding of Earth’s changes over time.
- Math: The focus will be on solving problems involving conversions within a measurement system (customary or metric), an essential skill for practical problem-solving.
Reminders and announcements
PTA Donation:
We’re thrilled to share that the PTA has generously provided new computer charger stations for our classrooms! To get them set up, we’re seeking parent volunteers to help install chargers in their designated spots. If you’re available, please let us know—your support is greatly appreciated!
Glue Stick Donations Needed:
Our classroom is running low on glue sticks, and we’d love your help in replenishing our supply for the rest of the year. Donations can be sent with your child or dropped off at the front office. Thank you for your generosity—it makes a big difference!
Trip to Spain Reminder:
There’s still time to join our incredible trip to Spain! Explore Barcelona’s stunning architecture, Madrid’s vibrant streets, and immerse yourself in the beauty and culture of Spain. The last day to enroll is March 27, 2025. For questions, contact Ms. Delgado (alba.delgado@austinisd.org) or Ms. Arriaza (maya.arriaza@austinisd.org).

Winter Weather & Recess:
As colder weather continues, please send your child with appropriate winter gear, including gloves, for outdoor recess. If weather requires us to stay indoors, we encourage students to bring board games or non-electronic activities. Thank you for helping keep our students warm, safe, and engaged!
