SLZHS Weekly Newsletter
Principal's Corner
Dear SLZHS Community,
Happy 3-day weekend Grizzlies! I hope that this newsletter finds you doing something that brings you peace and joy. I want to acknowledge that this has been a long and emotionally taxing week related to the recent elections and our community is experiencing a range of emotions to the outcomes both locally and nationally. I read an article the day after the election written by Garrett Bucks and was struck by a quote that I'd like to share with you all:
I will love you today and love you tomorrow and love you on days when we have more hope and love you even more on days when we have less. I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will care about and for the kids and the elders you hold dear. I will celebrate and commiserate with reckless abandon. I will hope you tell me when I don’t hit the marks. I will ask you to keep me going when I want to give up. Because the truth is that while I’m full of belief in our collective potential, I’m also terrified and I have no guarantee that the day I die the world will be closer to liberation for all. But it’s precisely because I’m filled with equal measures terror and hope that I can’t imagine any other path than this. I will keep loving you today and tomorrow and all the days ahead of us. I will love you in your heartbreak. I will love you in your rage. And will love you one day in the future when you’re once again overwhelmed with joy.
Our staff and I are here to support the whole community through trying times knowing we are certainly stronger together than alone.
Have a great Grizzly week,
Interim Principal Harp
The Week Ahead: Important Dates
This is a reminder that we do not have school Monday, November 11, as our district honors the Veterans’ Day Holiday.

Community Schools
SLZHS has a 5-year grant from the state of California to develop a community school program, which brings together academic, health, and social services plus community engagement to improve learning outcomes, build healthier communities, and develop stronger families. We have over $300,000 to spend in the next few years, but we must have ALL families complete a survey about what they envision for the school. Please take one of the surveys below, in either English or Spanish.

Our services range from providing referrals to therapeutic services, arranging parent meetings, or finding food security for families. This team is designed to work together to help teachers, students, and families with a variety of services.

Ms. Tran, or College and Career Center Coordinator, organized a session packed with information about how to access all the resources available.
