Marshall Families,
Next week, students will continue their beginning-of-the-year assessments. Please ensure your child arrives on time each day to provide an optimal testing experience. Assessment results will be shared by mid-September. Our Dream Seekers pep rally will kick off campus goal-setting on September 6th — you are invited to attend (standing room only). Teachers will begin student conferences to discuss performance and set learning goals once testing is complete.
Mark your calendar for Open House on Thursday, September 12th, to learn how you can support your child's success.
As a reminder, please return student "Back to School" packets as soon as possible for our records.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher via Class Dojo if you have any questions or concerns. We value two-way communication to build strong school-community relationships. For any matters requiring a meeting, kindly schedule an appointment so we can ensure our availability to assist you, as our priority is classroom support.
Enjoy the long weekend! I hope your Labor Day is filled with family, food, and fun.
Submitted with Marlin Pride,
Principal Eason
Happy Labor Day! September 2, 2024
Clear/Mesh Backpack and Student ID Requirement
Effective Tuesday, September 6th we will begin to enforce the Spring ISD dress code policy which includes clear/mesh backpacks and student IDs. These expectations have been discussed in detail with all students during grade level discipline talks with administration this week to ensure awareness. Student IDs must be visible at all times! Hoodies may not be worn on the head inside of the building. Please help us keep our school safe by making sure that your child adheres to all campus expectations.
Message from Nurse Wiley
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Our school will do vision and hearing as well as spinal screenings in the month of September, 2024. State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule:
• PK, kindergarten, 1st, 3rd and 5th grade students will take the vision and hearing screening.
Girls will be given a spinal screening two times, once at age 10 (5th grade) and again at age 12 (7th grade).
• Boys will be given a spinal screening one time at age 13 or 14 (8th grade).
Trained screeners will check your child for signs of spinal problems like scoliosis.
Catching a spinal problem early can make the treatment much easier. Not treating spinal problems can lead to serious health problems. The screening is simple; screeners will look at your child’s back while he or she stands and bends forward.
The school will send you a letter if your child does not pass the screening. The letter will tell you how to follow up with a doctor.
This screening is not a medical exam. Your child still needs to see a doctor for checkups. If you do not wish to have your child screened for religious reasons, you must submit a notarized exemption to the school front office as soon as possible.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Terri Wiley LVN
Smart Tag
Effective Monday, August 26th, the District’s is implementing the Smart tag program is to ensure authorized riders board our buses and improve the safety and security of students who utilize our bus transportation services. Bus riders will come home with their I.D. badges on Monday. Help us by making sure they are returned to school each day. Replacement I.D. badges are available for $3.
What is SMART tag?
The SMART tag™ system helps increase safety and security for students riding on a school bus, leveraging technology to improve student management and communications on school buses. SMART tag™ monitors the location of each tablet-equipped school bus, including student loading and unloading, providing real-time information to the Transportation Department, and you, the parent.
Make sure to register!
Download the Parent App from the app store or scan the QR code, and register to take advantage of the SMART tag™ Parent Features.

Privacy and Data:
Our student ID cards are safe and secure. We use PVC cards with a passive RFID chip containing only a unique identification (UID) number. The UID in the chip is read by our card reader, and our system uses it to reference student information. The latest cloud technology, encryption, and security protocols ensure your child’s information is secure.
SMART Tag Helpline
Need assistance with your SMART tag? Our dedicated helpline is here to help! Whether you have questions about registering, using the parent app, or understanding the benefits, our team is ready to provide the support you need.

Campus Procedures
DRESS CODE
Gloria Marshall is not a standardized dress school; therefore, no uniform is required. Students are allowed to wear any school appropriate clothes that do not have emblems or profanity. Clear or mesh backpacks ONLY. No purses or hoodies allowed. Athletic slides are not permitted. Students who fail to follow the dress code policy may receive a consequence.
Students and parents are reminded that clothing guidelines, as outlined in the student handbook, must be followed. For a review of that information, please consult the Grooming and Attire section of the SISD Student - Parent Handbook (pg. 84).
A guardian will be called to bring a change of clothes if the attire is deemed inappropriate.
Please send a daily change of clothes for all PreK-1st grade scholars, as a precaution, as we do not have extra clothes at school.
It is strongly suggested to label all students belongings with their first and last name. All unclaimed items left in the lost and found will be donated to charity periodically throughout the year.
I.D. BADGES
We must be able to identify all students for the safety of everyone while on campus. For this reason, ID Badges are required to be worn daily and will be strictly enforced. Students will be issued their badges at the beginning of the school year. Students who lose their badges must incur the cost of $3 for a replacement badge and $1 for a lanyard.
CELL PHONE POLICY
Cell phones may not be visible or turned on during the academic school day and dismissal. The cell phone/paging device will be confiscated and returned in accordance to the District's Regulations regardless of who actually owns the device. There will be a $15 administrative fee for the return of the cell phone/paging device. Cell phones and paging devices may be carried at extracurricular activities after the regular school day.
ARRIVAL
Staff members will report to duty at 7:35 a.m. Any students that arrive prior to 7:35 a.m. will not be supervised.
Parents will only be allowed to walk students to class on the 1st day of school.
Bus riders and students with a special transportation car tag will be dropped off at the cafeteria doors. DO NOT drop off any other students in the teacher parking lot for any reason.
A staff member will open the car door for all car riders. Please allow staff members to help students exit the car.
All students in Pre-K-5th grade will enter the building through the 1st floor of the main entrance or through the cafeteria doors (buses) and pass through the OpenGate security system.
Breakfast in the Classroom
Students will eat breakfast in the classroom. Breakfast is free for all students and will be served from 7:35 a.m. - 8:05 a.m.
Any student that arrives after 8:05 a.m. will not be able to eat breakfast. Special consideration will be given for bus riders who arrive late.
Attendance
The attendance at Gloria Marshall was 94% for last year. This is very low and can negatively impact our campus accountability and your student’s academic success. Our goal is 98%. You can help by making sure that your scholars are at school on time daily when they are well. Students cannot reach their maximum potential when they are excessively absent. Any student that arrives after 9:30 a.m. will be marked absent.
The morning announcements will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 8:05 a.m. If your scholar is not in their classroom seat at 8:05 a.m., they will be marked tardy. If your scholar is a car rider, it is your responsibility to ensure that your child is in class on time. If this is a concern, please consider walking your scholar to school when the weather permits.
If your child is sick, keep them home. Please send a note from the doctor or a written excuse to be put in their file the next day. Your scholar must be fever free (without the use of medication) for 24 hours before returning to school.
The state of Texas requires that all scholars attend school for 90% of the school days. Students who fall below this requirement will not meet the requirement for promotion. Attendance Requirements in Public Schools
Pre-K in Texas is not mandatory but it helps to set students up for success in Kindergarten for this reason attendance is critical. Scholars who miss more than 7 days of school may be withdrawn due to excessive absences. Students who are on the Pre-K waiting list may be enrolled at this time.
Early Pickup
Please try to schedule appointments outside of school hours. Keep in mind that students who are checked out early are missing valuable instructional time.
As a courtesy please let your child's teacher know that you will be picking him/her up early.
You must be listed on the transportation form and present a valid I.D. in order to pick up your scholar.
Transportation Changes
Changes must be made in writing before 2:30 p.m. to allow us time to make arrangements for a proper and safe dismissal.
If you arrive after 2:30 p.m., you may have to wait until after normal dismissal to check out your scholar.
You must be listed on the transportation form and present a valid I.D. in order to pick up your scholar.
LUNCH
Lunch is free for all students.
Gloria Marshall Elementary does not host visitors during lunch.
Deliveries may be left on the cart in the front foyer. Write your child’s name and teacher’s name on their lunch kits/food/water bottle/homework, etc. Please make sure that drinks are in a bottle or spill-proof container.
There will be 2 scheduled lunch deliveries; 9:45 a.m. and noon.
We will notify you via email throughout the year if there are changes to our lunch schedule or if we are on an alternate schedule.

Communication
Every scholar will have a blue “Friday Folder” that will be sent home weekly with any important documents. As Gloria Marshall is a green campus, please know that we will be moving to more digital communication via email, social media and campus newsletter to The Marlin Messenger-July 2024.
If you would like to meet with an administrator or teacher, please call or email to make an appointment. When calling the front office, they have been instructed to ask for information to help route your phone call to help ensure a quick response.
Please allow 24 hours for our staff to respond to your requests. This does not include the weekend. Do know that teachers may not be able to respond quickly during the school day as they will be teaching and supervising scholars. Staff members' contact information is located on our website. (New staff will be updated soon.)
Follow us on social media (Facebook/Twitter) for the most up to date information.
You may also check our campus website as it is updated regularly.
Special Celebrations
We will have two (2) schoolwide classroom parties with food per year (Winter/End of the Year).
Student birthdays will be acknowledged daily. For birthdays, students will be celebrated by having their name called over the intercom and receive a “slide ride”. Please do not send any cupcakes, cookies, or balloons to school.
Volunteers
There will be several opportunities to volunteer throughout the year. Please complete the Volunteer Application.
Late Pickup
School is dismissed at 3:25 p.m. daily. Make arrangements to pick up your scholars from school on time. Please be courteous as we have meetings and other school business to attend to.
Notices will be issued to students with excessive late pickups and may be submitted to our truancy officers.
Koala Kare Daycare
If you feel as though you may not be able to pick up your scholar on time, Koala Kare is available at Marshall before and after school for your convenience.
Please use this link to sign up. Koala Kare Sign Up or call Rossemary McDowell at 832.914.9004.
DISMISSAL
Have a discussion with your scholar about how they will get home from school. Be sure that you let your child’s teacher know how they get home from school as well. We suggest that you allow your students to go home their “normal way” on the first day of school as we are working to create a routine for both our students and staff.
All scholars will leave school on the first day with a backpack tag. Help us by making sure that the tag stays on the backpack regardless of the child's grade level. Each transportation mode will be a different color tag. This helps us to know where scholars should be. Please help us by ensuring that all scholars have a backpack tag with accurate contact information.
Transportation Plan
Please note that ALL transportation changes must be made in writing by 2:30 p.m. otherwise students will dismiss as normal.
- Car Rider: To drop off students all traffic will enter Entrance A and stay to the right as you enter.
- Buses and Special Transportation: You will enter through Entrance B and stay to the right as you enter.
- Daycare: Will enter through Entrance B, stay to the right, and proceed to the back of the building.
Car Riders
- Car riders may be dropped off at 7:35 a.m. at Entrance A at the front entrance of the campus Car Rider Line. If your child will be a car rider and does not have a car rider tag, please email the teacher.
- Please stop at the cone and pull all the way forward as the line moves. Students should exit at the 1st stop.
- The car rider tags are lime green. New tags will be sent home with car riders on the first day of school.
- In order to pick up your child in the car rider line, you must have a car rider tag. If you don’t have a car rider tag you will be asked to check your child out with a valid ID in the ID check car rider line.
- At 3:25 p.m. the left lane will be designated for ID checks and/or no tags so please have a valid license or government-issued I.D ready. The right lane will for car rider tags only.
- The car rider line is for parents in cars only. Please be courteous to other drivers and support staff.
- The car rider pickup lane will end promptly at 3:45 p.m., after this time we ask that you pick up your student at the front office. In order to check out your student from the front office, you must have a valid license or government-issued I.D. otherwise we can not release the student.
Bikers
- Bike riders will be allowed to enter the building at 7:35 a.m. after locking their bikes on the bike rack.
- Please provide a bike chain for your child as we are not responsible for any stolen property.
- In the event, your child has ridden his/her bicycle to school and you pick him/her up, please make the necessary arrangements to have the bike picked up so that it is not left overnight in the bike area. We will not be responsible for bicycles left overnight.
Bus/Special Transportation
- The side (North, at Entrance B) parking lot will be used for buses and special transportation only.
- Students who ride the bus need to arrive at their designated pick-up location at least 5 minutes early.
- Students who ride the bus must abide by the Student Code of Conduct. Riding the bus is a privilege that may be taken away for misconduct. We want to ensure that all students are safe.
- Special transportation students will be issued a pink tag. If you do not have a pink tag, you may NOT dropped off in the side parking lot.
- The side parking lot at Entrance B is for buses and special transportation ONLY.
- If your child is in Pre-K or Kindergarten you must have a PIN NUMBER to get them off of the bus. The Pre-K or Kindergarten students may get off the bus with an older sibling if the sibling has the PIN NUMBER.
- Parents please ensure that students are bringing their student IDs (Smart tags) back to school daily.
Walkers
- If your child is a walker, please do not walk on campus to pick them up. We will cross the students off campus property safely to the blue "walker" signs.
- Make sure that they know their route home. We do not verify identification for walkers so if this is a concern, be sure that an adult is there to meet your child.
- Parents, student will need to know where their home is by learning their route and address and know the best route to get home, walking as they will be expected to walk home independently.
- Walkers will be split into two groups. The two groups are: Pink walkers that will cross the street and head North away from the campus. Orange walkers will walk across the lawn heading East of the campus. Parents please wait by the walkers sign to receive your walker students at 3:25 p.m.
- If students are not picked up from their walker location at 3:25 p.m. they will be brought back to campus. In order to check out your student from the front office, you must have a valid license or government-issued I.D. otherwise we can not release the student.
- We DO NOT have a “rainy day” dismissal. We will proceed with dismissal as originally planned. Please send an umbrella and raincoat with your child if he or she walks or rides a bike when the weather report indicates rain. Unless we hear from you, we will dismiss your child the way he or she always goes home.
- If there is a presence of lightning, we will hold walkers and bike riders until the danger passes. If you decide to pick-up your child on inclement weather days, you will be asked to check your child out at the front office with a valid license or government-issued I.D. Please know that student safety is our priority.
NOTE:
-Parents driving to pick up their students designated as walkers should be off campus. Please do not pick up your child on campus grounds. This is reserved for bus and car riders. Doing so creates unnecessary traffic and compromises safety.
-Teachers are not responsible for waiting for students to be picked up. If you have a little one, you must be at the walker dismissal areas on time.
Daycare
- Daycare students will be loaded in the side (North, at Entrance B) continuing in the right hand lane behind the building.
- A staff member(s) on daycare duty will load students into the daycare. If you have a change in daycare, please let the front office know.
