Moving all students forward, whatever it takes... Together!
Message from Dr. Lebrón
Dear Tefft Middle School Families,
We’re pleased to share that we had a strong start to the first semester. Attendance levels are significantly higher than last year, which often goes hand in hand with a greater sense of belonging and engagement in our school community. We’ve also introduced new systems to help students get to class on time, every time, reducing disruptions and promoting a positive learning environment.
Let’s continue working together to ensure our students arrive consistently and take full advantage of all the opportunities available at Tefft Middle School.
Keeping Students Healthy While Supporting Attendance
We want to remind you how important it is for students to be in school every day to support their learning. However, we also understand that illnesses are more common during this time of year, and it’s important to prioritize your child’s health. Currently, our country is experiencing a significant uptick in viral illnesses, including Influenza, COVID-19, RSV, and Norovirus. This has led to the term “quad-demic” being coined to describe the simultaneous spread of multiple viral infections. Click here for a complete Quad-demic Update.
If your child is sick, please keep them home to rest and recover. This helps protect other students and staff while ensuring your child is ready to return to school. To help, please refer to this “When To Keep Your Child Home” guide for deciding when to keep your child home.
Thank you for working with us to make Every Minute Matter!
Consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in a student’s academic success. Each school day offers valuable opportunities for learning, collaboration, and growth, and missed days can mean lost instructional time that’s difficult to make up.
Our Every Minute Matters campaign highlights just how vital attendance is—missing even a single day can disrupt learning and make it harder to stay on track. Please join us in making attendance a top priority so our students can reach their full potential.
Avoid Taking Vacations During School Days
To minimize disruptions to your child’s learning, we strongly encourage you to schedule family vacations during official school breaks, such as spring or summer break. Extended absences during the school year are unexcused and may cause students to fall behind on their coursework. Let’s keep our students engaged and present to help them succeed throughout the semester!
Cold Weather Reminders
With winter weather upon us, students will be outside for arrival and dismissal, even briefly. Please ensure your child comes dressed for the weather with a coat, hat, and gloves to stay warm and safe.
Coffee with the Principal and PTO Night
We are excited to invite you to Coffee with the Principal and PTO Night on Tuesday, January 21st, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. A representative from Hanover Township Youth and Family Services (HTYFS) will join us to give a presentation on vaping. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this important topic and its impact on students and families.
We will provide free child care during the meeting, and we encourage you to bring your student to the presentation.
We hope to see you there for this informative and engaging evening!
Thank you for your continued partnership in making Tefft Middle School a great place for all students to learn and a great place for all teachers to teach.
Sincerely,
Dr. Richard Lebrón
Principal

Sinceramente,
Dr. Richard Lebrón

Message from Nurse Jen:
Medications:
Medication in school must have required forms on file with the nurse. If your student has a health condition that requires them to carry prescription medication or over the counter medication (Tylenol, Advil , etc.). The nurse must have parent permission as well as orders from the doctor. Students carrying medication without proper documentation on file can result in disciplinary action.
Have you seen the news?
After gathering over the Holidays it is very normal to see an increase in Respiratory Illnesses (COVID, Influenza, and RSV). There is also an increase of gastrointestinal illness known as Norovirus going around.
- COVID, RSV, and INFLUENZA-symptoms: fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Because the symptoms are similar, it can be difficult to distinguish between illnesses caused by respiratory viruses.
- Norovirus is highly contagious and spreads easily through the fecal-oral route, including via contaminated surfaces. Common symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramping. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are ineffective against norovirus. Cleaning surfaces and washing hands frequently are the best practices.
How can you help?
- If your student has a fever over 100, vomiting or diarrhea. Keep your student home until they have been symptom free for at least 24 hours or until a doctor indicates they can return to school .
- Any confirmations of illnesses should be sent to the nurse for the students Health file and for tracking purposes. If you are not sure whether to send your student to school or not. You can review the attached forms.
- When calling into attendance please leave a message with attendance of symptoms or if your student has confirmed illness from the doctor.
- Wash your hands!
- Cover your cough. ( Masking is not mandated but can help the spread of droplets )
- Wiping down and clean surfaces.
