McFarland DECA recognized for outstanding School-based Enterprise (SBE)
McFarland, Wisconsin – Spartan Headquarters, the school-based enterprise at McFarland High School, was among 728 school-based enterprises achieving gold-level re-certification for the 2023-2024 school year and will be recognized during DECA’s International Career Development Conference this April 27-30, 2024, in Anaheim, California.
A school-based enterprise (SBE) is an entrepreneurial operation in a school setting that provides goods and services to meet the needs of the market. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate National Curriculum Standards in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA advisors have utilized this effective educational tool for over four decades to provide their students with realistic and practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction, enhance 21st Century skill development, and prepare students for college and careers.
The McFarland DECA members who contributed to the certification were part of the Spartan Headquarters Marketing and Finance course along with Cora Thompson and Valery Vayserberg with the assistance of their DECA chapter advisor, Ginger Verhulst. The SBE at McFarland High School has operated for 26 year(s) and is to be commended for this achievement.

During their visit, students delved deep into the realm of real business decisions. They explored various facets of launching a new venture, from designing layouts to crafting effective promotion strategies and determining optimal pricing models.
Interacting with David Carrillo provided invaluable insights and firsthand knowledge, enriching their understanding of the intricacies of entrepreneurship and marketing.
A huge shoutout to David Carrillo for graciously sharing his expertise and to our students for their active participation and eagerness to learn!

This relates directly to our strategic plan objective to “Actively Recruit and Retain a diverse staff representative of a global society.” Thank you families for providing us this time without students to improve the district!
