Welcome Greenwich Elementary
Dream It, Believe It, Do It
November 2024
You blinked, and here we are—November has arrived! It’s incredible how quickly the school year is flying by. Despite the fast pace, our students have settled beautifully into their routines, working hard and sharing their excitement for learning. Their projects fill our hallways, showcasing both creativity and growth.
October was a bustling month- school picture day, Fire Safety Week, Healthy Smiles, McTeacher’s Night, parent-teacher conferences, Spirit Week, and, of course, our festive Halloween parade. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended conferences—your support and partnership play an essential role in our students’ success.
As we move into November, we turn our focus to gratitude, our character trait of the month. With the holiday season around the corner, it feels especially fitting to embrace thankfulness. While we will be closed on Veterans Day, we encourage families to take a moment to honor the veterans in your lives and communities. Their service and sacrifice offer inspiring examples of dedication and selflessness—values we strive to instill in our students every day.
Looking ahead, please remember that school will be closed from November 27–29 for Thanksgiving recess. As we enter this season of gratitude, I want to express how thankful I am for the privilege of serving as the principal of Greenwich Elementary. I’m continually inspired and excited by our students' hard work, our families' unwavering support, and our teachers' dedication. Wishing you all a month filled with reflection, thankfulness, and meaningful time with loved ones.
Thank you for supporting your child’s learning journey and making each day special!
"Go Home Early" Evacuation Drill
The New York State Education Department requires all school districts to hold an annual "Go Home Early" drill to ensure that students and staff are prepared in case an emergency ever requires school grounds to be cleared and students transported home or to another location. We will conduct this drill on Friday, November 8, 2024. On this day, all students, PK-12, will be dismissed 15 minutes earlier than their normal dismissal time.
Please plan accordingly, as students will also be arriving home approximately 15 minutes earlier than usual. If your child will be going to a different location after school, please send a note to the elementary office in advance.
We would also like to remind you that school will be closed on Monday, November 11, in honor of Veterans Day.
Keeping Our Kids Safe: Supervision Reminder
We would like to remind you that the district requests all minors be supervised during activities that occur after school hours. This measure is essential to maintain a safe environment for all our students and participants.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school community safe!
Elementary Picture Make-Up Day
Mark your calendars! Picture make-ups are scheduled for November 20. Families interested in a photo retake should contact Adirondack Portraits directly. Students who were absent and need their first photo of the school year should bring their completed picture envelope to school on the 20th.
PTSA News
The PTSA meets virtually on the second Tuesday of every month, and all are welcome to join! To learn more or get involved, simply click the photo to visit the PTSA website. Next meeting is Tuesday, November 12 via Teams Link.
November's Character Trait: Gratitude
This month, we’re focusing on gratitude—a powerful trait that can lift our spirits and remind us of all the good things, big and small, in our lives. Gratitude helps us appreciate the people, experiences, and opportunities that make a positive difference, even during challenging times.
Throughout November, we’ll encourage our students to recognize and express thankfulness in meaningful ways. From sharing kind words with classmates and teachers to recognizing everyday moments of joy, we’ll be exploring how gratitude can deepen our connections and boost our happiness.
Consider taking a moment to talk with your child about what gratitude means to them and how it can be a guiding force in their lives. Together, let’s make this month a time to practice and celebrate the power of thankfulness.
Student Parent Handbook and PBIS Behavior Matrix
Please take a moment to review the attached Student Parent Handbook. Understanding the handbook is key to building a strong home-school connection, promoting positive behavior, and supporting your child's success. By being informed about the school's expectations, you can help reinforce a respectful learning environment and prevent potential issues.
