Library News
Happy Friday! I have lots of exciting reading and book related activities coming up soon. Be sure to read on for all the details!
On Monday, October 14, 2024, author Alex Evanovich will be here to present to our students. Her new book Keeper Chance and the Conundrum of Chaos is in stores now. She will share what it is like being an author and I am sure some fun details about her book will also be given. Thank you to Best of Books for sponsoring her visit for us! If you would like to get a copy for your child the day of the visit, there will be limited copies available to purchase. They must be paid for with cash or check made to Best of Books. The cost is $16 (exact amount only).
We want to ensure all student devices are protected. Please talk with your student about device expectations and how they should be handled. Even with expectations clearly laid out, accidents can sometimes occur. Protect your student’s device by purchasing the device protection plan. Purchase now for $75 on My School Bucks.
Want to support our library even when the book fair is not here. You can purchase books from Literati at any time from our school store. Visit this link to shop. Literati also does Kids Book Club subscription boxes. Click here for more information.
Students should be reading everyday. Studies show that when students read at least 20 minutes daily, vocabulary is increased, reading scores go up, and stress levels decrease. We are also using a program called Beanstack this year, so students can track what and for how long they are reading. Ask them to show you! We just finished our first challenge and had 196 students complete it. Hallow-Reads 2024 is active now. Students need to read and log 300 minutes in Beanstack by October 31 to complete it! Let’s see if we can make those reading minutes soar!
Should any questions or concerns regarding the library come up, please do not hesitate to contact me. The easiest way is by email at jennifernewkirk@dcsok.org. Happy reading!

How to pay for a Lost Badge
If a student has lost a Badge, the student will be told verbally for two days that they need to purchase a new badge. After two days an email is sent to the campus who will contact the parent that the badge needs to be paid for or the student will not be authorized to ride home on the bus. A notification will also be sent to the parent through the 360 app.
Once payment has been received, the new badge is created and given to the driver who is also then notified so that the student isn’t penalized during the process.
- Steps for Payment:
- Visit MySchoolBucks.com
- Register or sign in and add your students using school name/ID
- Once logged in Select "Replacement Bus Badge" from online store
- Go to your cart to complete the checkout process
- Retain a copy for your student to show the bus driver until the badge is printed and given to the driver to give to the student.

Lunch Schedules and Pricing
BREAKFAST PRICE
$2.37
LUNCH PRICE
$3.40
The school breakfast will be served between 7:00 AM - 7:25 AM (M, T, TH, F) and 8:00 - 8:25 AM on Late Start Wednesdays.
The school lunch we will sell A’ La Carte snacks daily at an additional cost.
If you drop off lunch, please bring lunch for ‘your child only’. We are not allowing anyone to stay and eat with students inside the building due to time, space, and safety.
DoorDash, Uber Eats, Etc: We respectfully ask parents to partner with us in protecting our learning environment during school hours and not use food deliveries. We can not be responsible if food is left outside of our front door, if the delivery driver doesn’t know the name of the student who is supposed to get the delivery or if the food does not arrive on time during our lunch period.
Cell Phones, Tablets, Smart Watches, Electronic Accessories
We provide a chromebook to each student, and that is all they need during the school day.
We've tried to allow cell phones, smart watches, tablets, and other electronic accessories but our students have shown in PK--6 that they are not developmentally ready, and personal devices/smartwatches have proven to be a major disruption to the learning environment on our campuses.
We must protect our learning environment. Students do not need their own personal devices distracting them on top of the device we provide. That is detrimental to their brain development. All Cell Phones/SMART Watches/Electronic Accessories will be OFF and Stored in their BACKPACK throughout the ENTIRE School Day.
Parents are encouraged to contact the main office if they need to get messages to their children. Our students are surrounded by adults that can assist with messaging, and this is the sole purpose of our office teams, to serve as a liaison between families and the school.
We respectfully ask parents to partner with us in protecting our learning environment during school hours in the area of personal devices/smart watches/electronic accessories.
Student Dress Code
Student Dress Code
Grooming and dress at Deer Creek Schools must not constitute a distraction or interfere with the educational opportunities of students. Please see the Board Policy if needed.
PreK-6th are not allowing hats to be worn during the school day unless it is a special occasion such as a dress up day, a reward, fundraising event, etc. We've tried to allow these things, but our students have shown in PK--6 that they are not developmentally ready. Hats have proven to be a major disruption to the learning environment on our campuses.
Hoodies will be asked to be removed from the students head inside the building.
