DCIS Peek of the Week
Jan. 13 - 17, 2025
Let's Celebrate These January Birthdays!
DCIS Peek of the Week
Tardies to P1
During the first semester we had a lot of tardies to first period. Three tardies in any period equals an absence. When students have an excessive amount of tardies we have them make up the seat time that they have missed. Typically, our practice has been that if your child isn't here by 7:30 am, we ask you to park and walk your child into the building to check them in. Because we have had so many tardies we are bringing this practice back. If your child isn't here by 7:30 am, we need you to park and walk your child into the building to check them in. This helps us make sure that we don't have students left outside unattended and will help with students getting to class on time. Thank you for your help with this matter.

It might be a Good Idea to go through your child's backpack over the break to get rid of trash, reorganize and restock supplies.
Library News
Happy Friday! I have lots of exciting reading and book related activities coming up soon. Be sure to read on for all the details!
We want to ensure all student devices are protected. Please talk with your student about device expectations and how they should be handled. Even with expectations clearly laid out, accidents can sometimes occur. Protect your student’s device by purchasing the device protection plan. Purchase now for $75 on My School Bucks by clicking in the DCIS school store.
Students should be reading everyday. Studies show that when students read at least 20 minutes daily, vocabulary is increased, reading scores go up, and stress levels decrease. We are also using a program called Beanstack this year, so students can track what and for how long they are reading. Ask them to show you! Reading Wrap Up 2024 is live. Students need to read and log 300 minutes in Beanstack by December 31 to complete it! Let’s see if we can make those reading minutes soar!
We will also be doing a Bonus Winter Reading Challenge. If your student If your student picked up the reading log in the library, reading logs completed and returned to Mrs. Newkirk before January 10 to get a special winter reading reward.
Should any questions or concerns regarding the library come up, please do not hesitate to contact me. The easiest way is by email at jennifernewkirk@dcsok.org. Happy reading and happy holidays! Enjoy your break and the extra time with your families!

How to pay for a Lost Badge
If a student has lost a Badge, the student will be told verbally for two days that they need to purchase a new badge. After two days an email is sent to the campus who will contact the parent that the badge needs to be paid for or the student will not be authorized to ride home on the bus. A notification will also be sent to the parent through the 360 app.
Once payment has been received, the new badge is created and given to the driver who is also then notified so that the student isn’t penalized during the process.
- Steps for Payment:
- Visit MySchoolBucks.com
- Register or sign in and add your students using school name/ID
- Once logged in Select "Replacement Bus Badge" from online store
- Go to your cart to complete the checkout process
- Retain a copy for your student to show the bus driver until the badge is printed and given to the driver to give to the student.
