1. Responsible for the hydrophobic effect, in which nonpolar substances manage to gather and exclude water molecules. This is responsible for:

- Hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC) which seperates molecules based on their hydrophobicity.

- useful separation technique for purifying proteins while maintaining biological activity.

2. Hydrophia is also responsible for cell stability & its' ability to reproduce, a necessity to life.
3. Without an ability to repel water, in regards to biology, the separation of many ingredients necessary to life would not be allowed to exist.

Ah, here we have our two candidates, Hydrophobia & Hydrophilia, back in the day, exhibiting their opposite properties and their inadvertent help to the continuation to biology... good times!
