Lakeland Ridge Weekly Update!
Friday, June 3, 2022
Hello LLR families,
It seems the nice weather is finally upon us and hopefully here to stay. With the nice weather, more students are riding their bikes and scooters to school. This is a great time to review bike safety and remind students to walk their bikes or scooters when on school property.
Lakeland Ridge School had an evacuation drill this afternoon. Students did an excellent job leaving the building in a safe and timely manner. As this was a drill, there is no action parents/guardians need to take. In the event of an evacuation in response to an actual incident, we would provide information on any actions parents/guardians need to take to co-operatively support our emergency response procedures. An evacuation is used when it is unsafe to remain inside the building. In an evacuation, students and staff exit the building and gather at a designated location outside the school. In the event students and staff must remain outside for an extended period of time, they may move to our alternate indoor evacuation center. For more information about Elk Island Public Schools’ emergency preparedness planning, visit www.eips.ca/parents/emergency-preparedness.
Many field trips are scheduled over the next few weeks. Please check the school calendar to stay informed on what is happening at the school and when your child may be attending a field trip.
Class pictures will take place on June 8 for Kindergarten Group A and our Grade 5 classes. Remaining classes will have class pictures on June 9. Pictures are scheduled to be outside, weather permitting.
We look forward to celebrating with our Grade 9 students on Friday, June 10 at our Farewell Celebration. Grade 9 families please review the information below pertaining to this event.

2021-22 EIPS Survey Results
The results are now available for the 2021-22 EIPS Parent Survey conducted in March.
Thank you to all families who took the time to share their feedback with the Division. The survey included a series of questions related to the three priorities outlined in the EIPS Four-Year Education Plan: 2018-22 (Year 4).
- Priority 1: Promote growth and success for all students
- Priority 2: Enhance high-quality learning and working environments
- Priority 3: Enhance public education through effective engagement
The overall Division results represent 3,450 responses from parents and guardians across the Division.
The survey results for Lakeland Ridge School have helped us identify the following areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
Areas of Strength
- School staff care about students, encourage children to do their best, and work to promote responsible, respectful, and engaged future citizens.
- Caregivers are considered partners in education and appreciate the open and honest communication provided by Lakeland Ridge staff and school administration.
Areas of Growth
- Respondents identified attaining educational resources to support student learning as an area for growth.
- Families feel the quality of education has declined in the past 3 years due to learning disruptions and the global health circumstances.
The feedback gathered in the survey will help our school and the Division measure its progress toward meeting the priorities and goals outlined in the EIPS Four-Year Education Plan and develop strategies to better serve students and the wider community moving forward.
Grade 3 - 6 Track and Field Day
Our Grade 3 to 6 Track Meet is on Thursday, June 16 and the school will be offering an optional BBQ lunch. All food must be pre-ordered - we are unable to accept orders at the event. Tools For School
EIPS has once again partnered with the United Way for the 2022-23 Tools for School campaign. Annually, Tools for School provides backpacks and school supplies to students in kindergarten through Grade 12 whose families have limited resources. If you’re a parent or know a parent who needs access to the program, contact the school directly. Staff will discretely provide the backpack to the child at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year.
Alternatively, if you’d like to donate to the program, you can pick up a few extra supplies when you’re out shopping for back to school. Drop-off boxes are located at the EIPS Central Services office, all Staples locations and various businesses in the community. Any supplies donated within the community are invested back into the region.

Preparing for Kindergarten Series
The EIPS Early Learning team has planned several sessions for families with children starting kindergarten in the fall to help prepare them for the year ahead. Sessions will take place throughout May and June.
We invite you to join us for any or all of the upcoming virtual sessions that fit your schedule. Many sessions have both a daytime and evening option. Upcoming sessions include:
· Supporting a Successful Transition to School
· Self Help: Building independence
· Speech Sound Development
· Fine-Motor Development in Young Children
· Literacy in Kindergarten
NOTE: Links to register were sent to all families with children registered to start kindergarten in 2022-23. Presenters will send the links to join the actual sessions directly to all registered families closer to each event.
For more information, contact the school at 780-416-9018.
Student Transportation: 2022-23 registration is now open
Planning to use Student Transportation in the 2022-23 school year? If so, make sure your child is registered so Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) can plan routes and send your child a bus pass before the first day of school.
All students who indicated needing transportation services through the returning student registration process are now registered. Families registered will received tentative route schedules and invoices by the end of the month—fees are due June 30, 2022.
For those students who didn’t indicate needing transportation service through the pre-enrolment process and want to now register, simply contact EIPS Student Transportation at 780-417-8151 or email st@eips.ca.
For more information about EIPS Student Transportation visit www.eips.ca/transportation.
NOTE: Families can pay fees online using the PowerSchool Parent Portal. To pay in-person contact Student Transportation to make an appointment.

Updating Your Contact Information
Have you recently moved or has your contact information changed throughout the past year?
Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) encourages families to review their information the Division has on file to ensure it’s up to date. Using the Correction and Verification Form available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal, families can review their information on file for each student—including addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, parent and guardian information, emergency contacts, medical details and other related information—and submit any updates needed.
Reviewing and updating the form ensures the Division has the most up-to-date information regarding your child. Your review is especially important in case there’s any communication the Division or school needs to send out over the summer months related to classes next year. All EIPS families are asked to review their child’s Correction and Verification Form by June 13 at noon. After this time, EIPS will turn the form off for the remainder of the school year—available again at the start of the 2022-23 school year.
NOTE: Only submit updates for the changes that have already taken place. If you’re moving this summer, you’ll submit the necessary updates to your address through the Correction and Verification Form at the start of next school year after you’ve moved.
If you have questions about the Correction and Verification Form or are having trouble with your Parent Portal account, contact the school at 780-416-9018.

Virtual Family Gatherings
Many thanks to the families who joined us for our virtual gatherings this winter. It was a pleasure to reconnect with those who were part of the gatherings last year and to welcome new families to our virtual circle. We’re grateful for the conversation, the ideas shared and the feedback on work that’s happening throughout the Division. We look forward to seeing you all again next school year—hopefully in person at some point!
If there’s anything stemming from the gatherings you wish to discuss, please reach out to the lead teacher at your child’s school or someone from the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education team directly:
Treaty 6 and Métis Nation Flag Raising | June 13
If you’ve driven by EIPS Central Services recently, you may have noticed the addition of two new flag poles. As a further commitment on the path of truth telling toward reconciliation, and as an affirmation as Treaty partners, EIPS will be raising the Treaty 6 and Métis Nation flag on June 13. Each school in the Division will also display the two flags and are busy planning staff professional development and student learning experiences to understand the significance of each flag. More information on the Central Services ceremony and the specific events at each school will be shared in the near future.
Opening of Central Services Land-based Learning Space | June 21
EIPS has been working closely with Elder WIlson Bearhead to design and build a land-based learning space at EIPS Central Services. With spring on its way, construction will resume on the space. As part of Indigenous Peoples’ Day on June 21, EIPS will officially open the space, honour our ongoing relationship with Elder Wilson and affirm our commitment to deepen our relationship with the land that sustains us. We’ll share details of the opening event as the date draws closer.
