Notes from Principal Chapman
Dear Lincoln Students, Families, and Staff,
It was energizing to welcome back our students on Back to School Prep Days. Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers, Friends of Lincoln leaders, and staff. The class of 2028 (433 students) survived the longest line of their career to get ChromeBooks and StudentVue access. Great job! Thank you to this year’s Cardinal Ambassadors and our Cardinal Mascot for leaning in to help welcome and prep everyone for the first day of school! LHS Faculty & Staff returned last week to engage in professional learning and collaborative planning work. Lincoln is so fortunate to have a really incredible team of people who love their subject matter and love working with young people. The good news is that our student enrollment is up and we have 1675 students registered to learn and grow at LHS.
This year, all students in PPS will be able to enjoy breakfast and lunch at no charge. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all enrolled students each day and families do not need to apply for meal benefits. Milk can no longer be purchased separately - students bringing lunch from home and wanting milk will need to come through the service line and choose two other components (such as a fruit and a vegetable) to complete their meal. Students will still need to type in their numbers this year but PPS Nutrition Services is hoping to get scanners into place so students can scan their ID badges (which is quicker) instead of using the pin pad. Please note that staff can no longer accept cash for meals. You will also notice some changes to the service line. We are adding a second burrito bar this year and will have stanchions in place to help with crowd control and speed of service. Additionally, we will be adding a second computer so that we can get students through the "charge" line more quickly. Students will still need to enter their numbers this year, but there will be two lines at each computer so we're hoping to be able to get students through in a timely fashion even though we expect more students to eat with us. Thank you to the PPS Nutrition Services team for providing these benefits and changes!
Please take a look at the 2024-2025 Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook which is now live on the PPS and MTSS (Student Conduct & Discipline) website. We are shifting from printing hard copies to electronic versions of the SRRH beginning this 24-25 school year. While the details are important to know, just be kind, make healthy & safe choices, and get involved in school related clubs and activities, and you will thrive at LHS.
We are excited to host Foreign Exchange Students from China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland this year. Thank you to our host families for making this experience for all of our students and our guests possible. Each FEX student brings invaluable connection, in each classroom and through the extra-curricular activities they are involved in at LHS, to our broader global community.

Athletics
Concessions at our home events generate revenue for Lincoln Sports & Clubs. Profits help cover costs/fees for students who otherwise would not be able to participate.
We're looking for 2-3 student leads to help manage concessions. This is an important and rewarding role that will challenge and develop your business skills: leadership, communication, accounting, teamwork, collaboration, time management. You will receive guidance, support and a bonus is possible!
This is a wonderful opportunity and will look great on your resumé. You have the potential to make many people happy!
Please email your resume to Info@friendsoflhs.com or drop hard copies to the Main Office, clearly marked for Friends Of Lincoln, by 8/30
We also looking for a parent/guardian lead. Please email Info@friendsoflhs.com if you can help.

Alumni in the News
Congratulations to LHS Class of ‘22 Alex Rhodes for representing the United States at the U20 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. He’ll be competing in the 4x400 on August 30th and August 31st!! WAY TO BE!!
LHS 2010 Alum Georgia Cloepfil was featured on NPR this summer. (Georgia Cloepfil spent six years playing soccer professionally in six different countries after she graduated from college. It was a lonely, physically demanding life that was also incredibly rewarding. Cloepfil’s new memoir, “The Striker and the Clock,” details that time, and the beauty and complexity of the game she still loves.)
LHS Alum Sophia Mautz, Class of 2016, wowed the audience reading her poetry along with Oregon Poet Laureate Emeritus Paulann Petersen at Chaparral Books.
Check out Sophia's bio in the About the Readers Flyer. So much hard work and talent! Go Alumni Cards
