First Day of School
We are so excited to have you back in the building for the 2024-2025 school year. As most of you know, we have a brand new schedule and many wonderful new staff members, and we are ready to welcome our students back into the building.
Below you will find important information about the first day of school. Please look this over with your child/children so they know what to expect when they arrive next Tuesday September 3rd.
- Your schedule will go live in IC parent portal @ 12 PM tomorrow, Friday Aug. 30th. Please make sure that your child knows their advisory teacher, and the room number where they will meet for advisory. That's where they will begin their first day. ( If you do not have access to Infinite Campus, please call the main office to get your parent portal set up. Contact information is always at the bottom of this newsletter.)
- The bell to release students into the building rings at 8:30 AM. If your child arrives before then, they are welcome to get breakfast in our cafeteria, or to wait in the lobby outside of the main office.
- Once the bell rings, we ask that students report directly to their advisory classroom. During this 45 minute advisory, students will receive their paper schedules, locker number, and combination. Their advisor will walk them through how to read their schedules, and will give them ample time to get into their lockers and put their belongings away.
- After advisory, students will begin following their schedule of classes for the day.
- At the end of the day, they will return to advisory for 35 minutes to reflect on their first day and receive their dismissal information.
Please know that much of what is happening this year is new for all of us, and that we are all in this together. Please reassure your child that we are here to help them, and that they can reach out to any adult if they aren't sure what happens next. We can't wait to have them back in the building!

Please fill out this year's Blended Learning Form ASAP!
The 2024-2025 Blended Learning Agreement gives your student access to school internet as well as a Chromebook for them to use. To prevent any delays in providing your student with school technology access, please have this form submitted prior to the start of school.

Combination Lock - Time to Practice!
We know that one of the most stressful parts of becoming a middle schooler is figuring out how to quickly and successfully open a combination lock. In order to help your child get ready to use one daily, we recommend that you practice! New students will have the opportunity to try their combinations during new student orientation, but if you have an extra lock hanging around, give them a chance to practice with it. It will reduce anxiety on the first day and help their transition go smoothly!

OEMS Staff Feature
Let's meet Charlie Borak, Dean of Students
Describe your role at OEMS:
I am the new Dean of Students. I will be here as a support and resource to help you solve any conflicts and/or learn from any mistakes that may happen throughout your days at OEMS. We all make mistakes and if we own up to them, we can become better versions of ourselves. I am excited to get to know you all and help you see the best in yourself and others. If you ever need support or just someone to talk to, please feel free to come find me on the 2nd floor, room 2113, but more than likely you will see me out and about in the hallways, at lunch, and/or even some classrooms. Donβt be shy!
What do you like to do when you are not at school?
I love spending time with my family. My wife (Amanda) and I have two children, Vivian (8) and Jacob (4). We also have two dogs, Benji and Cooper, two barn cats, Lucky and Gracie, and 8 chickens. We love to spend our time together outdoors fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping.
We follow BARK principles at OEMS. BARK stands for Be kind, Act responsibly, Respect others, and Keep safe. Which is your favorite BARK principle?
My favorite BARK principle is BE KIND. I believe it is one of the most important things we can do as humans, and it is so simple to do.
What advice do you have for middle school students to help them be awesome humans?
Be the person you want others to be to you.
I would choose to travel to the past because I want to be able to learn more about where I came from so that I can have an even better understanding of who I am to create an even better future for myself, my family, and everyone around me.
