WOODS ECHO
Week of April 17, 2023
Principal's Message
Dear Woods Families,
It's great to be back at school! We hope you enjoyed a wonderful Spring Break and are refreshed and ready for a strong finish of the 2022-23 school year. We have a busy schedule ahead and hope that you take some time to mark your calendars for our upcoming events. Speaking of which, we have a Family MovIe Night coming up on April 21st. This evening is a fun activity we planned to thank our students for their hard work in earning the National Blue Ribbon School Award. The Woods Snack Bar and a Me n Eds booth will be open to purchase food starting at 6:00 PM. Free popcorn will be provided to Woods students while supplies last. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (PG) will begin at 7:00 PM, or at dusk. Pack up your lawn chairs and blankets and get ready for a great show!
April is Autism Acceptance Month! We are lucky to have an Autism continuum at Woods with phenomenal teachers to meet their students' specific needs. This year, we are celebrating diversity and acceptance through student art. Students can submit artwork for our Bubble of Kindness Art Contest. Winners will be announced at our Autism Acceptance Rally on April 21st.
Can you believe that we're already starting to plan for the 2023-24 school year? If you would like to provide input on your child's placement for the next school year, please click on the Consideration for Placement 2023-24 button below. All of the teachers at Woods are highly qualified, professional educators. Please note that this is not a teacher request form. Forms that list a preferred teacher by name will be disregarded. Your input on your child's learning needs is important to us. If you would like to provide input, please complete this form before May 1, 2023.

Positivity Project- Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence. Appreciation of beauty and excellence means you notice and value the world’s beauty and people’s skills. You don’t take things for granted.
Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence is the ability to identify and enjoy that which is admirable in the world. There are three types of goodness in which positive psychology focuses: physical beauty (e.g. a sunset, a song, or building); an exceptional skill or talent; and moral goodness (e.g. a character strength). Appreciation of beauty can generate awe; appreciation of a skill can generate admiration; and appreciation of moral goodness can generate moral elevation. All of these feelings (awe, admiration, and moral elevation) help us forget ourselves and find increased joy and meaning in the world.
Appreciating excellence and beauty helps an individual experience positive emotions and connect to the world around them. It’s an outward facing strength, meaning the individual is focused on the world outside their head. And, not only is the individual outwardly focused, but often deeply absorbed in a sense of awe or admiration, freeing them to forget anxieties and troubles. And it is associated with other strengths, such as gratitude, curiosity, love of learning, and purpose.
To practice and encourage the character strength of Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
