JANUARY NEWSLETTER
Dearing Eagle Parent Newsletter 2024-2025 Issued: January
Notes from the Principal
HAPPY NEW YEAR! We are excited to see our students back at school tomorrow Tuesday, January 7th! We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful, restful holiday season spent with family and friends.
January marks the beginning of a crucial academic period. With the school year now halfway through, it’s a great time for students to refocus on their academic goals. Please encourage your child to stay organized, complete assignments on time, and seek help when needed. We will be spending time during this first week back, reviewing expectations with students in all settings of the building, reminding them what it means to be safe, respectful, and responsible.
Attendance Matters! A new year is a great time to recommit to strong attendance habits. Every school day is an opportunity for growth, and consistent attendance is key to academic success.
We don't have many things happening this month. I do want to share that we will have our STEAM night on Thursday, January 23rd from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Our 4th and 5th graders (and some 3rd graders) have been working hard on their science projects. Join us for fun STEM activities and to look at all the science fair projects.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making our school a place where every student feels valued and inspired to learn. Together, let’s make this year a successful one for all our students.
Wishing you all a happy and prosperous New Year!
Warm regards,
Shawn Joseph
Principal

THE COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! January is a time for fresh starts, reflection, and setting goals—not just for adults, but for our students as well. As we ease into the second half of the school year, here are a few focus areas to support your child’s emotional and academic well-being.
Setting Goals for the New Year
Encourage your child to set realistic and achievable goals for the rest of the school year. Whether it’s improving grades, making new friends, or trying a new hobby, having clear goals helps build confidence and resilience.
Tip: Help your child break goals into smaller steps and celebrate their progress along the way.
Managing Stress and Emotions
The post-holiday transition back to school can sometimes be challenging for students. Encourage open conversations about how they’re feeling, and remind them that it’s okay to ask for help when needed.
Resource: If your child is experiencing anxiety, stress, or emotional challenges, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for support.
Attendance and Routine
A consistent routine helps students feel secure and prepared for their day. Regular attendance is also essential for academic and social success. Please ensure your child arrives on time and ready to learn each day.
Your child’s well-being is our top priority. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions, concerns, or need support resources.
Wishing you and your family a positive and fulfilling start to the year!

FROM THE NURSE
Happy New Year, Eagles!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back, and Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a relaxing holiday season. As we start the new year, I want to remind you of some important health tips and updates for the upcoming months. Keeping your child healthy and in school is our top priority!
Winter Health Tips for Students:
Dress for the Weather:
Please ensure your child comes to school dressed warmly. Layers are the best way to keep them comfortable and dry, especially on colder days. Don’t forget hats, gloves, and scarves!Cold and Flu Season:
January is peak flu season, and colds are common during winter. To help prevent the spread of illness:- Encourage your child to wash their hands frequently.
- Remind them to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or their elbow when coughing or sneezing.
- If your child is feeling sick or has a fever, please keep them home to rest and recover.
Hydration and Healthy Eating:
Winter air can be dry, so it’s important for children to stay hydrated. Keep a water bottle with your child, and encourage them to drink water throughout the day. Additionally, make sure they’re eating a well-balanced diet to maintain energy and support their immune system.
Important Reminders:
Immunizations:
If your child is due for immunizations, please make sure they are up to date. Keeping a record of all vaccinations helps us maintain a healthy school environment. You can contact your child’s pediatrician or the school nurse if you need assistance or have questions.Emergency Information:
Please update your contact and emergency information in the school system if there have been any changes. This ensures that we can reach you in case of an emergency.Medication at School:
If your child needs to take medication during the school day, please remember that a doctor’s note and signed permission form are required for us to administer it. All medications must be brought to the nurse’s office in the original container.
Contact Information:
If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s health, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m here to help!
