Figurative Language
Hello Families!
We have been working with Idioms and puns, focusing on double meaning. We have been learning that they often come up in texts, and how to recognize them. This has been enjoyable and a highlight of each class period!
Students should be reading for around 20 minutes each night.
What are we writing?
The daily journal writing this month focused on identifying what the prompt is asking, and turning the question around to create a topic sentence. We have also been working on expanding our writing by using sentence frames.
We have also been working on how to use graphic organizers for more academic-style writing.
Language! Live!
We are on starting to wrap up our Unit 3 of Language! Live! We have been working on parts of speech, and how to demonstrate an understanding of how to respond to various types of questions.
This is going to be coming to an end as we work on longer form writing. It is important that we master the basics of sentence and paragraph writing before taking off.
Reading
We have been reading a book as a class (Max Crumbly) to pique interest. It has been one of my favorite parts of the week. Especially when the chapter comes to an end and the students chorally say "AWWW!!" It warms my nerdy teacher heart!
We have also been making sure we are reading independently each night.
Next month, we will be working on an independent reading unit with a culminating project. Please look out for more information, as some of the reading happens at home :)
