PRINCIPAL'S PERSPECTIVE
We hope everyone stayed safe during the storm. We look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Monday for our regular schedule. Should anything change, we will update you by text and email as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
Wishing you a restful weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
Happenings
Fulton County Technology Competition
Registration for the Fulton County Student Technology Competition is Opening Soon! Each year, FAST students excel at this district-wide event, and we’re confident this year will be no exception. The competition is set for January 11, 2025, with first-place winners advancing to represent FAST at the state level.
In preparation, students competing in the county competition will have the chance to showcase their projects at the FAST Tech Fair in December. Stay tuned for more details and get ready to cheer on our talented tech enthusiasts!
Students who are interested in competing can speak with Ms. Sawhney. Further information can be found on the FCS website.
Update to CheckMate Kiosk for Student Sign-In/Out
There has been an update to our CheckMate kiosk system for student sign-ins and check-outs. To use the kiosk in the front office, you will now need your child’s Student ID number. If you do not have the ID number at the time of check-in or check-out, you will need to complete the process at the front desk with our staff.
You can find your student’s ID number by logging into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
Picture Day
School Picture Day is coming up on October 10th. All students are required to wear their cobalt blue polo shirts with the FAST logo for their pictures.
We are partnering with Jostens for our school pictures this year. Jostens will reach out to you directly with information on how to order prints, so keep an eye on your inbox for more details!
Hispanic Heritage Month
We are excited to announce that our school will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a special Spirit Week next week, Sept. 30-Oct. 4! This fun initiative was inspired by some of our students, and we’re thrilled to see their enthusiasm in honoring the rich cultural contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.
Each day during Spirit Week, students will have the opportunity to participate in themed dress-up days that reflect various aspects of Hispanic culture. See the graphic below for the schedule.
Middle School Talent Show
Congratulations to all the students who tried out for the middle school talent show. We were so impressed by their enthusiasm, creativity, and bravery in sharing their talents. While we couldn't take everyone, students' participation made this process incredibly special and made judging a challenge.
The talent show is scheduled for October 11 and all students will have a vote to determine the winning act.
We are so excited to see these talented kids perform:
8th graders Naomi S., and Vayda Jane D.
7th graders Nikitha, Aadi, Barret, Kiara, Aylah, Chelsea, Riley, and Ella
6th graders Anastasiia, Sai, Elanore, and Miller, Kayla, Autum, Olivia, Kylie
Book Fair
Mark your calendar for the annual Scholastic Book Fair which is scheduled for the week of October 28- November 1. You will be able to set up an e-wallet for your student to shop cash-free beginning October 7. Volunteer opportunities will be posted soon!
REMINDERS
Communication
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES: If your child’s transportation arrangements need to change for the day, please notify both your child's homeroom teacher and Ms. Cadogan at gail.cadogan@fastk8.org by no later than 11:30am.
CURRICULUM/CLASSROOM CONCERNS: If you have questions or concerns regarding your child's class, your first point of contact should be your child’s classroom teacher. If further clarification or assistance is needed, you can contact the respective assistant principal (anesha.james@fastk8.org or elementary or demetria.walker@fastk8.org for middle school.)
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES: If your student will have a change to their afternoon transportation (whether it is for a day or long-term), please be sure that you are communicating any changes to your student's afternoon dismissal to both their homeroom teacher and Ms. Cadogan (gail.cadogan@fastk8.org).
A Note from the Nurse
If your child is not feeling well, we encourage you to keep them home to avoid spreading illness at school. Please keep in mind that if a student is running a fever they are expected to remain out of school until they have been fever free without the use of medication for a full 24 hours.
FAST is a Nut Free School
Please remember that FAST is a nut free school. Students should not bring any foods for lunch or snack that contain any nut products including, but not limited to, peanut butter or almond butter.
This is a serious risk to those students with severe allergies. Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.
Cell Phones and Bluetooth Devices
As a reminder students are not permitted to use their cell phones or Bluetooth devices throughout the day. Students who have a cell phone out after school begins at 7:40am through 3pm will have their phone confiscated for the day. Please remind your students of this policy so that you will not have to come to the office to retrieve their phone.
School Hours
Students must be in homeroom by 7:40am each day. Please be sure that you are allowing time to navigate carpool and your student to get to class on time. If you arrive after 8am, you will need to come into Innovation Hall to sign in your student.
Early dismissals are not permitted after 2:40pm (M-Th, 1:40pm Fridays). If you need to pick up your child for any reason, please plan accordingly.
Uniforms
All students are expected to be in full uniform every day. The full uniform code can be found on our website at: https://www.fastk8.org/fast-apparel-and-supplies/
Students who are not in full uniform will have their parents contacted.
