Phoenix Welcome Night--Tomorrow, August 27th
We hope that you and your student will be able to join us Tuesday night for the Health Careers “Phoenix Welcome Night” from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Be on the lookout for an email from your student's 1st period teacher, as everyone will start in their student's 1st period class. The PTSA will be in the lobby as you enter. If you are already a member, please sign in when you arrive. If you are not a member, you may join during your visit. Everyone will begin in their student's 1st period class at 6:30 pm with a few brief remarks from administration, counselors, and the PTSA. You will then have an opportunity to visit other classrooms as you wish to maximize your ability to meet your student’s teachers.
It is best if you have your student’s schedule with you if at all possible. This is even more important if your student is not in attendance. If that is the case, please take a picture of the schedule to bring with you.
Our Phoenix PTSA officers will also be selling memberships, shirts, and accepting donations.
Our meet the teacher event is structured in a way to serve the needs of all families and will not allow for individual conferences. Each teacher will provide general information designed to give you a brief overview of their course and classroom.
IMPORTANT--ID Badges
Freshmen and Incoming Sophomores new to Health Careers will be able to get their ID badges for free. Returning students needing an ID replacement will need to pay $5.00.
IDs can be purchased before school only in the front office.

Latin Nationals
This summer 40 members of the HCHS Latin Club traveled by bus to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for the National Convention of the Junior Classical League for a weeklong extravaganza of competition, learning and fun! Students not only took exams, but made art, danced, sang, cheered, played agon (Greek quiz bowl), competed in swimming and track contests, attended academic colloquia, participated in direct democracy, sold carbonized Pompeiian bread plushies, and made friends from across the country. Overall our students won 69 ribbons for 1st-5th place finishes, a full list of which is below. Congratulations to our amazing Latin Club members!
Dress Code
"Due to outside regular contact with medical professionals, future employers, and the general public, a higher standard of appearance is expected for all Health Careers students than what may be expected at a traditional high school. We understand that the Health Careers administration and faculty will advise students on the responsibility of maintaining a mature and professional appearance, including coloring and styles of hair grooming, facial piercings, as well as appropriate dress and footwear." (HCHS Application)
There is a broad spectrum of what people may consider conventional and/or traditional in regard to dress and grooming. No written policy can account for every situation; however, we believe the following clarifications will be helpful when planning for the upcoming school year at Health Careers HS.
Any hair coloring that is not a natural hair color at birth is considered to be unconventional at Health Careers. For example, shades of blue, green, purple, many bright reds, etc. are prohibited. Large sections of multicolor shades of natural colors are also prohibited. For example, half blond, half black hair would be prohibited. Subtle highlights are acceptable as they are considered conventional at Health Careers HS.
Facial piercings, other than rings and studs in ears, are considered non-traditional at Health Careers HS. This precludes the wearing of gauges in the ears and piercings on the face (eyebrows, nose, lips, cheeks, etc.).
Students at Health Careers will be allowed to wear shorts according to the guidelines in the attached document. Please note any shorts or skirts must be of mid-thigh length.
Friendly Reminder--Lunch Deliveries
Due to allergies, COVID and other health concerns, we will not be allowing any outside food to be delivered to or brought to the campus. Students who have off campus lunch will not be allowed to bring any food back to the campus. Parents bringing a forgotten lunch for their own child may bring it in a lunch box/bag or a plain brown bag labeled with the student's name. Food and drink are not allowed in the classrooms. Students may carry a water bottle.
