Historically, a Solar Eclipse has been shown to create major traffic issues. To ensure the safety of all Maple Run students and staff, Monday, April 8, 2024 will be a no-school day. We will make it up at the end of the school year, similar to a snow day.

Second and third grade investigators joined together today to do a longest paper chain challenge. Each group was given one piece of paper, one set of scissors and a piece of tape. They had to work as a group to create the longest paper chain. They got a second try to try and beat their first chain!

Seventh and eighth graders traveled over to BFA for a day of technology challenges and tours of the many tech-related offerings that exist at the school and Northwest Career and Technical Center. Ms. Parizo provided a few images of students building popsicle stick bridges for strength and little wooden race cars for speed and distance. They can be seen in the auto repair shop and the health field intruction areas, among other locations.

The STEAM and Makerspace Team in collaboration with teachers, and the ECHO Science Center, Montshire Science Museum, and many volunteers are excited to bring you a family evening event– our very own second annual St Albans City School STEAM Festival! Save the date and prepare for an evening of creativity and fun as we design,make and build together! Watch the school announcements for information about all the great experiences planned for this event.

What? A STEAM Festival

When? Tuesday April 2nd from 5:30 - 7:30pm

Who? Students accompanied by family members in our St Albans City School community

Details: Stations will be set up throughout the school with amazing opportunities to build and create. A giant windwall, an airplane launcher, a giant planetarium, cardboard construction, circuits, laser cutting, spin art, photo booth, robotics, and so much more! Attendees will have opportunities to create things to take home and enter raffles to win great STEAM activities to continue the fun together beyond the event.

All are welcome, and no sign up is needed, but if you have questions please contact Darcie Rankin, STEAM Educator at drankin@maplerun.org.

We hope you will join us at the STEAM Festival on April 2nd from 5:30 - 7:30pm. Our education partner, ECHO will be bring an airplane launcher. Fold paper airplanes and explore their flight patterns as they soar in the large gym.

As seen in the below video, robots at City school are suffering from winter boredom. They had so much fun during the month of code in December but now are tucked away in their boxes awaiting adventure. What does this have to do with you? Your class can help give the robots a vacation. Simply let the STEAM team know which robot you want and when! We will deliver the robots to you-- ready to go!

We are looking for children between the ages of 5 and 12 that want to play baseball or softball. Scholarships are available and no child will be turned away due to finances.

Each major war is discussed from the perspective of the female participants of that era, and quotes from individuals, insets with mini biographies, and an abundance of period photographs bring the narrative to life. The slow and difficult transition from women acting as helpers on the battlefield to fighting as soldiers alongside their male counterparts is described in detail. A discussion of sexual harassment and racial discrimination sheds light on some of the problems women have faced. Readers will find this book valuable for research and interesting for browsing.

Amidst the Gold Dust is a colorful collection of individual biographies about 5 women who braved the western frontier. At first glance, each woman seems vastly different: a newly freed slave just tasting her freedom, a Native American fighting against the loss of her culture, a caregiving wanderer trying her hand at prospecting, a refined Englishwoman venturing into the untamed wilderness, and a miner's wife turned society woman/fund raiser. Despite their outward differences, these women have much in common and much to teach us about hardships and preserving courageous spirits.
