Elk Tales
October 2024
This month’s focus is Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways. We hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together! Respect is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.

Back to School Night Success
THANK YOU to everyone who attended our Back to School Night and Title Presentation last week! We had over 100 people in attendance. We were thrilled to see how many of families showed up to learn about our school, classrooms, staff, and Title 1. What an honor to serve a community so dedicated to it's students' education!
Parent Connections Newsletter
Introducing the EPSD Parent Connections Newsletter, released monthly, and containing tips geared towards parents for connecting with school aged students. This issue covers topics such as talking with children about social media and teaching children how to manage their own behavior. It also includes sign-up information for the upcoming Love and Logic training on October 15th.
Saving Fred
On Fridays, Lake Creek does Reading Buddies. This year the students are doing a teamwork challenge involving the younger students working together with the older students. For the challenge, students had to rescue Fred the gummy worm by putting a peach ring life preserver onto Fred without touching him. Students had to work as a team, using paper clips, to accomplish this task. In order for Reading Buddies to work well, the younger students have to work together with the older ones to make good use of this time. Our students worked well together and successfully saved Fred!
School Meals
We are pleased to inform you that Eagle Point School District 9 will implement an option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for School Year 2024-2025.
Students are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the 2024-2025 school year.
Find current Breakfast and Lunch menus here.
Homework
Homework is an essential tool that reinforces what students learn in the classroom, helping them build independence, responsibility, and time management skills. Please help us support your child by setting aside dedicated time each evening for homework and reviewing their assignments together. If your child has any questions or struggles with their homework, encourage them to reach out to their teacher for clarification. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students succeed
