WLC Sports Update
We offer a wide variety of sports for students; in many cases, no prior experience is needed to participate and compete. Many of our teams are no-cut sports and would welcome new athletes. Joining a sport can be an enriching experience. Not only does it offer opportunities for physical activity and skill development, but it also provides a sense of community and teamwork.

I am thrilled to announce that we have found a fantastic addition to our school's athletic department. Please join me in welcoming our very own Coach, Jeff Penrod, as the new head coach of our football team!
Coach Penrod brings a wealth of experience and a passion for the game that will surely inspire our players both on and off the field. He brings 35 years of coaching experience with 31 years in Walled Lake, teaching and coaching in various capacities, and three years in Rockford Public Schools. Coach Penrod grew up in Bath, Michigan, where he played for MSU football alum Robert Popp. Coach Penrod comes from a coaching family, as his dad, Tom, was the head football coach at both Haslett High School and Lansing Eastern High School. He began his coaching career after playing for four years at Grand Valley State University as a graduate assistant for Brian Kelly, now the head football coach of LSU. Coach Penrod began coaching football, track and field, and basketball in Walled Lake at Geisler Middle School in 1990, coaching with Hall of Fame coach Randy Kibiloski. Coach Penrod then moved on to Banks Middle School and then on to Walled Lake Northern. He has been coaching and teaching at Walled Lake Central for 16 years now, where he coached under Bob Meyer and Josh Perusse as a varsity assistant and JV head coach. He has been part of the coaching staff that won 3 district titles, a conference title, and one regional championship. He was part of the staff that defeated Lake Orion and Clarkston in 2011. Coach Penrod has a BA in History and Physical Education with an emphasis on coaching. He also has a Master’s in Curriculum Instruction and Leadership from Oakland University. Coach Penrod was the 2017 Michigan High School Football Coaches Association assistant coach of the year. All three of Penrod’s children, Katie, Sam, and Joe, are all Walled Lake Central graduates. With his leadership, we are confident that our football program will reach new heights of success.
