ABC25 Foundation Update:
ABC/25's new slogan is Granting Inspiration to Forward Education and this year teachers/schools submitted close to 60 grant proposals representing each of the 9 schools in the school district! We're blown away by the creative, innovative, and excellent ideas our educators have for our D25 students. The grants have been read and scored, and next week volunteers from each school are meeting for the final vote on how to distribute our funds for the year.
If you haven't already become a member, join and 1. you'll get access to our free-for-members ($10 per person for non-members) STEM event on 2/19/24 (Presidents day/no attendance) and 2. you'll help *INSERT SCHOOL NAME HERE* achieve 25% membership for an additional $2500 grant just for our school! Only XX families are needed to join and membership costs $40 for the whole family. If you need to check if you are a member email: abc25president@gmail.com
We'll be announcing additional member activities and our new spring fundraisers soon so stay tuned for an exciting 2024! Learn more about us at www.abc25.org
Stella Station
It's that time of the year where holiday decorations seem to be popping up everywhere. Put a little STEM twist on your typical decorating and make some crystal snowflakes this weekend. You can find the directions HERE. Once your snowflakes are done and dry, they look beautiful in a window, on a tree, or as a gift to someone special. You can make other shapes too! If you make one, I'd love to see it! Send me a picture! (vstella@sd25.org). Have a great weekend!
Food & Nutrition Services|Seasonal Menus
The Food & Nutrition Services Department is continually working to provide our students with lunch menu items that they enjoy, while providing a variety of nutritious options for our students. To achieve this, the department will be having seasonal menus this school year. All elementary and middle schools will have a Fall (8/17-11/17), Winter (11/27-2/14), Spring (2/20-5/31) Menu. Many of our favorite menu items will stay on the menu, however, this allows us to add some new products to our menus!
Our elementary and middle school students taste-tested a variety of new menu items this fall, and we have selected several of those items to be placed on the winter menu. We had quite a few items our students enjoyed, so some of the student-approved items will also be placed on the spring menu.
Updated menus will be posted on our website as well as on our app. Nutritional information can also be found on our website. We look forward to continuing to serve our students delicious and healthy lunch options.
Notes from the Nurse:
Dental Exams:
The time off from school during the holidays can be a good time for you to schedule your child's required dental exam. Students in kindergarten and 2nd grade are required to turn in a dental exam by May 15, 2024.
Please refer to this LINK for Illinois Department of Public Health informational materials regarding influenza, meningococcal disease and vaccinations.
Absences/Tardies:
Please also make every effort for your child to arrive at school on time. Missing the beginning of the school day often has a negative impact on students for the rest of the day. Please contact the office if your child will be tardy or needs to leave early!
Student Health: If your child has tested positive for COVID-19, you can notify the school nurse for guidance regarding how many days it is recommended to stay home (5 days with day 0 as onset of symptoms or test day if asymptomatic) per Illinois Department of Public Health.
