Team Dublin Weekly Update
Week of June 10, 2024
Field Trip Updates
On the day of the trip:
Students must be ON TIME.
We will be leaving promptly around 8:45 and will not return until close to dismissal (3:00)
Students are responsible for packing lunch and bringing water.
They may also bring a blanket, book, frisbees, soccer balls, tennis balls, football (although they can only play catch with the football), cards or games.
Students are advised to bring sunblock, bug spray, hats, and wear comfortable clothes/shoes – forecast projects to be around 83 that day.
All things that they bring with them MUST be in a backpack – no loose items – due to us needing to take public transportation.
NO PHONES ARE ALLOWED! They will be left at school, in their Yonder pouches, in their lockers!
Celebration!
Team 4th Advisory Celebration is Thursday, June 13th. Students are asked to bring the following (please make sure they are peanut and nut-free) based on their 1st period class:
Kirschenbaum/Patsalos - Chips
O’Malley - Cups & Drinks
Osman – Paper Plates & Napkins
Wesselhoft – Desserts
Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
This past week, students took the end-of-year ReadingPlus assessment. I have posted student scores in ASPEN with both the beginning-of-year score and the end-of-year score. The score listed corresponds with the grade level (this is, 6.3 means 6th grade, month 3). This week, we will finish reading Beowulf. We will also reflect on the progress we made this year. Please make sure that your student brings in a self-address, stamped envelope with their home address. Also, if you see any books in your home with my name written on the top, please remind your student to return them before the end of the year.
Mr. O'Malley, Math 6 and 7
Thanks for the focus and hard work on the EoY iReady Assessment. Looking forward to our team field trip next week! :)
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
This week we identified visible and hidden aspects of culture and discussed cultural perspectives. Next week we will close out the year by investigating the culture of Latin America/Caribbean.
Ms. Osman, Science
Hello, scientists, and thank you for a great week! We had a blast diving into our Amplify Engineering Internship unit, and students have made some truly innovative plans to help the city of Solton, Arizona reduce their greenhouse emissions all while preserving their historic value and keeping their costs low.
On Monday and Tuesday, students will present their PowerPoints to the "Town Council of Solton" and must convince the members that their plan is worth taxpayer dollars. Feel free to check in with your scientist to hear the argument on how the proposal can help the town!
Last, but not least, we are approaching our last full week of school. As the school year ends, students are running out of time to finish any outstanding assignments. My last day to accept late work and makeup assignments is 10 June.
Pencils are still required. We are working to the end so expect to see several more grades, please. The students are drinking A LOT of water. If your student does not use a water bottle and has me after lunch or Gym, please consider sending in cups.
If you want to know what I think of your student’s handwriting, please ask me.
Missing a sweatshirt? There are four in my room, many more in the Lost and Found, and probably some in lockers.
Ms. Patsalos, Intermediate ESOL
Students will share their presentations with classmates for their final assignment of the year. We broadened the topic from culture to anything that interested the students, and they came up with some very interesting topics like soccer stars, manga, musical artists, and more.
ML Newcomers - ELA and Geography
Happy last week of school to all! The end of the school year is always a very busy time and your students have been active doing projects, summative exams, and field trips. For this last week of school, students are going to give an oral presentation to showcase their Human Migration Maps project in World Geography. In ELA they will analyze their ACCESS results and celebrate that all of the 6th graders in Beginner English met their goals! They will also continue to work on their reading and get signed up for the English Learner Summer Academic Program (ELSAP) so they can continue to build their English skills over the summer. Students in Beginning Literacy will wrap up their last week of System 44, analyze their data results, and write one final book about their first year of school in the U.S.A. using the Book Creator App. Thank you, families, for all of your tremendous support this year. I hope that everyone has a fantastic summer and I look forward to seeing you next fall.
