SMHS CELEBRATES FRIENDSGIVING!
We held one of our most popular events last week: our annual SMHS FRIENDSGIVING! This event brings together students from across all grade levels to celebrate the spirit of community and gratitude. It's a fun opportunity for students to share a meal and enjoy each other's company!
Special thanks to Ms. JOCELYN GREENBERG and Ms. AMANDA NEIL and their students for opening up their classrooms, hosting the event and providing the delicious, student-made goodies!
SMHS SHOWCASE HIGHLIGHTS
Thank you to all of the families and students who came out on a very rainy evening to attend the SMHS SHOWCASE! The best part of the event was seeing our students proudly and confidently interact with an authentic audience. As important as these public-facing events are for attracting new students, they are equally impactful opportunities for our own students to share their work, talents and interests with a real-world audience.
There are a lot of great things happening here at SMHS and events like the Showcase energize the internal positivity as much as they extend the good news outwards!
BRAVO TO THE CAST & CREW OF KTC!
If you had the fortunate opportunity to attend a recent showing of KNIGHTS THEATRE COMPANY's ALMOST, MAINE, I don't need to tell you how incredibly talented our students are! Almost, Maine explored love in all its stages and there's no doubt that every audience member could genuinely relate to one or more of the vignettes.
As always, our students delivered an inspirational and unforgettable experience to every scene.
Congratulations to all members of KTC: actors, crew and tech for their hard work and dedication in creating such a memorable show!
SMHS STUDENTS ATTEND AVIATION FAIR
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Computer Science Essentials students recently attended the Southeastern Massachusetts Aviation Career Fair at the Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis. This hands-on event gave students a firsthand look at exciting careers in aviation and aerospace, including insights into how computer science drives flight control, navigation, data analysis, simulation, and aircraft design. Students also explored the real-world applications of drone technology in areas like public transportation, land surveying, and law enforcement. They connected with industry professionals to learn about potential internship opportunities and career pathways, gaining valuable perspectives on the future of technology and innovation in aviation. This event is just one of many experiences offered to our innovation pathway students to help them explore meaningful career opportunities!
LEADING WITH KINDNESS: HIGH SCHOOLERS INSPIRING INCLUSION
Playbook trainers SHREYA SHUKLA and PETER MILBURN along with our SMHS PEER LEADERS went to Oak Ridge School last week to work with the 5th and 6th graders. The workshops centered around leadership, being an upstander and inclusion.
SENIORS SWEEP POWDER PUFF
A chilly, windy evening on the turf did not stop our SENIORS from clinching the annual POWDER PUFF game against the JUNIOR class with a 34-31 win!
Special thanks to all the spectators, volunteer coaches and players for continuing this fun tradition!
GO KNIGHTS
ANCIENT INDIA SHARK TANK COMES TO SMHS
Seventh grade Ancient History students were tasked with investigating an innovation from Ancient India that they had to present to “sharks” (other teachers in our SMHS community) detailing the innovation's purpose, benefits and marketing strategies.
Thank you to our not-so-scary sharks: Mrs. Stockwell, Mr. Welch, Mr. Everett, Mrs. Ferris, Mr. Townsend, Mrs. Murphy, Mr. Broderick, Mr. Taylor and Dr. Quinn for taking time out of their day to evaluate! Students gave enthusiastic presentations, some came equipped with prototypes and others dressed the part! An overall fun experience for all!
MILITARY VISIT ON NOVEMBER 26, 2024
On Tuesday, November 26, from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM representatives from several branches of the U.S. military will be in the cafeteria during high school lunches offering interested students the opportunity to discuss topics such as enlistment, R.O.T.C., career possibilities and answer any other questions they may have.
Note: At no time during this visit will the military representatives be allowed to collect student information unless a parent/guardian has given permission previously. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Kathy Lucas, Director of Guidance.
BOOK REPORTS, REWRITTEN!
Check out the captivating animation film created (designed, drawn, animated and set to music) by junior, ANNABELLE MARCHAND. The video was submitted as an English project after reading the Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
As Annabelle impressively shows us, gone are the days of paper book reports. Today, our students demonstrate creativity and content knowledge through multimedia projects. From videos and podcasts to interactive presentations and digital storytelling, they are mastering tech tools while diving deep into their various subjects.
Well done, ANNABELLE!
