The Gold Mine
September 2024
Message from Mr. Singley
Parents,
The purpose of our monthly newsletter, The Goldmine, is to keep you informed of important dates and events related to our school. Another piece of information that I would like to share with you relates to our school goals. The Pioneer Staff and I are committed to providing a well rounded educational environment with an emphasis on academic growth and positive behavior. While we work to provide academic instruction and interventions to meet the needs and strengths of each student we also look for ways to improve our school-wide data in all areas. One of the ways we look to improve is by comparing our end of the year assessment results to the previous year. Our goals for ELA and math at each grade level is to decrease the percentage of students scoring below proficient and in turn increase the percentage of students scoring at or above proficient.
One action step that Pioneer is implementing this year to help us achieve our goals is a “Walk-to-Read” instructional model for ELA. “Walk to Read" occurs during our ELA "WIN" (What I Need) time. For thirty minutes, four days a week, students are moving between teachers, specialists, and grade level classrooms to receive interventions and enrichment that will help them acquire some skills that they have not yet mastered and enhance their understanding of certain ELA concepts. Our second major action step is that our 3rd through 6th grade students are using a new district approved math resource called iReady. The teachers in these grade levels are receiving training to support their adjustment to this new resource. Our lower grades will transition to this curriculum next school year. We are confident that these action steps along with the hard work of our students and staff will help us continue to show academic growth as a school.

Free Bike Helmet Giveaway for Gilbert Community
The Gilbert Parks and Recreation Foundation, supported by community donations and grants from Dignity Health, is offering free bike helmets! We have approximately 300 helmets available in various styles, sizes, and colors. These helmets can be picked up at one of five locations in Gilbert, AZ, during normal operating hours:
- Freeride Bike Co., 3143 E Williams Field Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85295
- Global Bikes & E-Bikes , 835 N Gilbert Rd, #111, Gilbert, AZ 85234
- Bike Masters, 2244 E Williams Field Rd #101, Gilbert, AZ 85295
- Pedego Electric Bikes, 459 N Gilbert Rd, Unit 1, Gilbert, AZ 85234
- NControl Driving School, 1663 E Ray Rd #103, Gilbert, AZ 85296
To receive a helmet, simply sign a waiver at the pickup location. This initiative responds to the increasing number of motor vehicle collisions involving people riding bicycles, e-scooters, and e-bikes, who are especially vulnerable on our roads. We encourage riders to wear a properly secured helmet and remind drivers to be extra cautious and reduce their speed, especially in areas with people walking and bicycling. Please talk to the kids and teens in your life about the importance of helmet wearing, paying attention, and following traffic laws. Let’s work together to make our streets safer for everyone!
