Kindergarten Enrollment!
Enrollment for Kindergarten/Developmental Kindergarten
Kindergarten enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year begins on Monday, February 3, 2025. District-wide enrollment for all kindergarten programs, including Developmental Kindergarten, is processed through our Central Enrollment Office. All enrollments into Royal Oak Schools are done online.
Kindergarten Age Requirements
A resident child must be five (5) years of age on or before September 1st in order to be eligible to attend kindergarten.
If a child is not five (5) years of age by the September 1st enrollment eligibility date, but will be five (5) years of age no later than December 1st, the parent/guardian may still enroll the child in kindergarten. The parent must notify the school district, in writing, prior to the beginning of the school year. Notification, by way of a completed Kindergarten Age Waiver, must be received in order for a child born between September 1 and December 1 to be enrolled in kindergarten.
If you need assistance navigating the online process or do not have a home computer, please call Theresa Baughman at 248-435-8400 x 1260. Appointments are highly recommended if you'd like to enroll in person.

African American Read-in 2025
Royal Oak is proud to be a watch site for the 2025 African American Read-In. Oakland Schools will host author Jacqueline Woodson as our guest for this year's read-in (virtually). She's the award-winning author/illustrator of numerous critically acclaimed books for children. The first 500 Oakland County households who register will receive a copy of one of Jacqueline Woodson's books. See flyer below for more information and use the link or QR code within to register.
Friendly Reminder: Safety First!
This is just a friendly reminder to please be cautious at all times while in the school vicinity. This includes as you are driving, walking, or playing with your kids during our drop off and pick up times. Please abide by the signage in all of our pick up/drop off areas. Our parking and traffic flow can be less than ideal at times and may require adults to park and walk to the classroom doors for pick up or drop off. We know that this is more challenging in the winter months. A few things we would like you to be particularly mindful of are:
- Parking and waiting in handicap parking spaces. * The purpose for these spaces is for handicapped/elderly community members who need to use the spaces to then walk a shorter distance to pick up and drop off locations.
- Parking and waiting in staff parking spaces(particularly at drop off). * These spaces are reserved for staff to park when they arrive in the morning.
- Double parking or stopping in the travel lanes of our pick up areas. * Limits acces of busses to safe pick up locations and forces kids to walk across lanes.
Free Skate Dates at the Rink
We’re excited to announce the return of Royal Oak Schools Free Skate Days at the Centennial Commons, located in downtown Royal Oak, proudly sponsored by M3 Investment Services! These fun-filled evenings are a fantastic opportunity for our students to enjoy a night out on the ice while connecting with friends and family.
Upcoming Free Skate Dates:
- Wednesday, January 22
- Wednesday, February 5
Here’s how it works:
- Royal Oak Middle and High School students skate for free by showing their school ID.
- Elementary students skate for free by having a parent or guardian confirm their school affiliation.
Professional Learning Mornings
Professional Learning Mornings or "Late Starts" are days when staff report 30 minutes earlier than normal and students report 60 minutes later. Staff have the opportunity to engage in 90 minutes of collaboration and learning. On these Wednesday mornings the first bell will ring at 9:20 a.m. with classes starting at 9:25 a.m. Upcoming Late Starts will be:
- January 29th
- February 5th 26th
Birthday Recognition
Consistent with health and wellness goals and cognizant of various student and staff allergies, Royal Oak Elementary schools recognize student birthdays with non-food-based celebrations. We do recognize birthdays as special days and will recognize a child’s birthday with individual recognition by the classroom teacher. Each teacher will inform you of the specific classroom birthday recognition practice. The students will also have their names announced on the school broadcast and receive a birthday pencil from the office. Please do NOT send food or beverages as birthday treats.
Special Message on School Attendance
Please see the August 18th, 2023 edition of the Roadrunner Report for a special message about attendance.
