Shepherd High School Weekly Update
19 August 2024
Brief Message From the Principal
This week staff took a look at our at-risk student list - in particular those failing multiple classes. Staff is working on a plan to help those students be more successful. If you have a students that is currently failing any class now is the time to act so that work can be completed before the end of the trimester and credit for the course can be given. Many of our students want to do things like attend CTE, participate in work study or take dual enrollment course but they quickly lose those opportunities when other required courses are failed and have to be retaken.
- Mr. Cornwell, SHS Principal
This week Mrs. Wirick was presented the WMLM 105.3FM, 1520AM & Michigan One Credit Union High School Educator of the Week. In addition to the gifts presented by Dawn Augustine from WMLM, Mrs. Wirick was interviewed, which will play on 105.3FM.
Mrs. Wirick is one of our many outstanding educators at Shepherd High School who teaches Integrated English and Integrated Math in addition to being an outstanding mentor to our new teachers, a teacher consultant for our students with IEPs, and great advocate for all students. Mrs. Wirick always looks first to what is best for students and then works hard to implement that plan. She cares deeply for our students and couldn’t be more deserving of an award like this!
Thank you and congratulations Mrs. Wirick! We are so lucky to have you!
Virtual Financial Aid Presenations
Students and families looking for help paying for college can attend an upcoming Virtual Financial Aid Presentation provided by MI Student Aid. There are 5-6 dates available for those interested.

We have had a lot of phone calls made to cell phones with a full voicemail boxes. If you could take a few minutes and delete some of those messages it would be wonderful. When we call and can not reach anyone, or leave a message, it often leads to lots more phone calls in trying to track someone done for their student or with dead ends leaving your student needing to be in touch.
