Principal Weekly Update to Caregivers

Galvin Middle School Project

Just a reminder that our Canton community will conduct a key vote regarding the Galvin Middle School Project on Monday, November 18 at the Special Town Meeting at 7 p.m. at Canton High School

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. If there is an affirmative vote at STM, there will be a December 10 ballot vote for the final approval of the project.

Principal Lamour Update

Dear Luce Caregivers,

This week, we will be holding our parent conferences on Tuesday, November 19th, and Wednesday, November 20th. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Additionally, on November 21st, we will host our second in-school programming event (Laser Games) through the CAPT.

School Parking Lot Concerns

We ask that you refrain from parking in the fire lane at the entrance of the driveway or near the stop sign in the parking lot. I’ve noticed some unsafe practices during drop-off and pick-up times. Our priority is to ensure a safe environment for all, especially for our students.

Arrival/Drop-off Safety Reminders

Please remain in your car during drop-off unless you are parked in a designated space.
Do not leave your car idling.
For students in grades 2-5, please pull up to the front entrance.
For students in kindergarten and 1st grade, please pull up to the K doors.
Never let your child out on the side of traffic.
Drive no faster than 5 mph in the parking lot.

Thank you all for your continued efforts to ensure the safety of our students during arrival and drop-off.

Parent Conferences
Parent conferences will be held on November 19th (5:30–8:00 PM) and November 20th (12:30–3:00 PM). If you have not yet scheduled a conference, your child’s teacher will be in touch to coordinate a time.

Early Release Day November 20th

We will have an early release day on Wednesday, November 20th. School hours are 8:20-11:50 am. Please plan your pickup/dismissal plans accordingly.

Fall Caregiver Survey (Launching on November 19)

The Luce Fall Caregiver Survey will launch on November 19th, coinciding with the first day of parent conferences. The survey will remain open through December 19th.

School Safety Update

To enhance the safety of our students, your children, and our staff, we ask for your cooperation with a few important procedures:
1. Please Do Not Hold Doors Open: You may have noticed new signs at our entrances requesting that visitors do not hold doors open for others. Please refrain from doing so, as it helps maintain building security.
2. Early Dismissals: If you are picking up your child early, they will meet you at the front doors for dismissal.
3. Picking Up a Sick Child: If your child is feeling unwell, please proceed to the nurse's office for pick-up.
We appreciate your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

CAPT Updates

Join us! Thanks to everyone who joined our November meeting. If you couldn’t make it please find the minutes here. We welcomed Superintendent Folan who updated us on the progress of plans for a new middle school. There is a very important vote at a special town meeting tomorrow night, November 18th at 7PM. Please consider attending and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions! Also, please save the date for our next CAPT Meeting in the Luce Library on Tuesday, December 10th at 7PM.

Holiday Shop

Save the date for our fun annual tradition on Friday, December 13th from 3-6 PM. Bring your children to shop for holiday gifts with all profits benefiting the Luce. We’ll need many hands for a successful shop. Please consider signing up to help set up the Holiday Shop, work the shop, or help with break down!

Luce Play Volunteers Needed!

Alice in Wonderland will debut on Friday, February 28th, and Saturday, March 1st. Please consider signing up to be a rehearsal monitor here. If you are able to help with costumes, photography, set building, cast party, sponsorship or other important play tasks please sign up

Demographic Verification and District Permissions

Dear Families,

We are pleased to inform you that the PowerSchool Parent/Guardian Portal is now open for you to review and update your demographic information, as well as manage media, handbook and device permissions for your student. This process will help ensure that your contact information is current and that you’ve provided the necessary permissions for the use of media and technology in our educational programs.

To assist you with this process, we have created a series of helpful slides and a video that guide you step-by-step through updating your information in PowerSchool. These resources are available to help make the process as simple and straightforward as possible. And, please see a summarized set of steps to follow in the graphic below to access the Demographic Verification and CPS Handbook

Please take a moment to complete these updates as soon as you are able. Should you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out—we are here to support you.

If you have any problems logging into the PowerSchool Parent Portal system, adding another student to your PowerSchool account, or you’d like your student(s)’ Access ID and Password re-sent, please submit your issue on THIS GOOGLE FORM. A member of our tech team will respond back within 48 hours.

PowerSchool Text Messaging Feature

We're excited to enhance our communication with you through Powerschool, our new portal for student information. To access your child's academic progress, attendance records, and more, please visit the PowerSchool Parent/Guardian sign in page. If you need to request your credentials to set up an account for the Powerschool Parent Portal, please submit a request here.

In addition to the portal, we're introducing a convenient text messaging feature to keep you updated on important school announcements. To opt in, simply text Y or yes to 67587.
