Ka Leo Alakaʻi o Waikīkī
November 1, 2024
Mahalo to all of our students, staff, and families that dressed up as part of our spirit week!
Bringing Halloween candy to school may not be a good idea because it can affect a child's learning and concentration. The sugar in candy can make children hyperactive at first, but then they may become tired and less focused. This can make it difficult for teachers to teach and manage the classroom.
A reminder that as a nut aware school, please check to make sure your child is not bringing to school candies that contain nuts. Here at Waikīkī School, we have a growing number of students and families dealing with serious nut (peanuts, almonds, cashews, walnuts) allergies this year, serious enough to be life threatening. Therefore, we are asking our mindful school families to become more “nut aware” and avoid sending nut products to school for home lunch, snacks, birthday treats or classroom parties. We thank you in advance for being aware of this. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the school.

Grade 3-6 p4c class
For more than two decades p4c (philosophy for children) has been a core practice at Waikīkī School. p4c provides students with the opportunity to wonder together, to carefully listen to each other, to explore meaningful questions, and to become excellent thinkers.
Created by the University of Hawai‘i Uehiro Academy for Philosophy and Ethics in Education (home of p4c Hawai‘i), “p4c Hawai‘i ‘Ohana” is an advanced p4c outreach group that meets Saturday afternoons at the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa. This group is now accepting applicants for its Grade 3-6 class.
Parents of Grade 3-5 students, if your child has a special love for p4c, we invite you to view this p4c Hawai‘i ‘Ohana video and then email Dr. Toby Yos (yos@hawaii.edu) for information on how to attend a trial session. While p4c Hawai‘i ‘Ohana does accept donations, there is no mandatory tuition charge for members of the group. Our aim is to support the practice of p4c at Waikīkī School and to provide a place where graduates of Waikīkī School can continue their p4c experience.

Kids 4 CPR Event
The Kids 4 CPR program was established in 2010 with the mission to improve the Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) rate. The Superhero Program empowers our youth with the knowledge to save lives with “hands only” CPR and an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Kids can be superheroes!
Fact: The likelihood of survival can increase to 90% when the victim receives high quality CPR and a shock from an AED within the first 2 minutes of SCA.
We have an exciting opportunity for students and families coming up on Friday, November 15, 2024
Please use this LINK to learn more and to register if interested.
