The Woodlands High School
Highlander Happenings August 19 – August 31, 2019
ATTENDANCE:
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! Please take a moment to review the attendance procedures we feel will ensure a smooth, successful year.
TWHS classes begin at 7:20 a.m. and are dismissed at 2:35 p.m. Students who arrived between 7:21 and 7:35 are considered tardy. Those who arrive at 7:36, or later, are considered absent from their first class of the day. Please remember, students who arrive at school after 7:35 need to check in through the Attendance Office and have a parent note (or phone call) providing a reason for the absence. Please note that students are required to be in classes 90% of the time that a class is in session a semester. Failure to meet this attendance requirement can result in loss of academic course credit.
Parking privileges are affected by 1st/5th period (2nd/6th for late arrival students) tardies and unexcused absences. Five-day parking privilege suspension will be levied after five tardies or three unexcused absences for those periods.
Absences not covered by a parent note or call will be considered Unexcused after two days.
To report an absence, please call:
9th Grade (832) 592-8025
10th Grade (936) 709-1234
11th Grade (936) 709-1236
12th Grade (936) 709-1233
If it is necessary for your student to leave campus prior to the 2:35 dismissal time, please send a note with them in the morning, stating the time they need to check out and the reason for leaving. He or she will exchange the parent note for a Permit to Leave form, in the Attendance Office, upon arrival in the morning, between classes or during lunch. Juniors and Seniors who drive to school may check themselves out provided they have a parent note authorizing them to do so. By making arrangements in advance, we are able to minimize disruption of class instruction and provide an efficient check out at your designated time.
A full explanation of policies concerning attendance can be found in the TWHS Student/Parent handbook. The Attendance Office staff will happily answer any questions and assist you with any attendance related concerns. Feel free to call the numbers above at any time. You may leave a message if you call outside of the 7:00 to 3:00 office hours.

If students who have parking permits issued need to add another vehicle, they need to email Mrs. Spears all the car information at wspears@conroisd.net or fill out a purple form in grade level.
Students who have parking permits issued must meet attendance and tardy requirements to maintain parking privileges. Effective this year, students who have alcohol, tobacco/vape, and drug/paraphernalia offenses will receive parking suspensions in accordance with school policy.
CAMPUS/DISTRICT COMMUNICATIONS:
Conroe ISD is in the process of switching emergency notification platforms used to communicate with parents and staff. This change requires an opt-in to the new system to continue receiving text messages. If you would like to receive SMS (text message) notifications on your mobile device, please text "Y" to 67587.
Failure to opt-in by August 20 could result in not receiving timely or emergency text messages from Conroe ISD or your child’s campus. For more information, please visit

On Thursday, 8/15/19 the Highlanders(#6-2018) blanked Kingwood(#19) 19-0. This was the first time in 8 years that Kingwood was shut out. TWHS will play Montgomery in a home opener on Friday(8/16/19) @ 3pm at the TWHS Senior campus courts.
PTO NEWS:
TWHS PTO STAFF APPRECIATION: Thank you to all who donated to our August Welcome Back Breakfast. The staff loved the great start to their school year. Our next staff appreciation is a Fiesta luncheon on September 25th. If you are interested in helping with monthly staff luncheons, please join the PTO http://www.twhspto.org/ and check the staff appreciation committee box to receive our emails. This is not a commitment to volunteer but does allow you to know what is coming up each month. Volunteer when you can. 2019-20 Staff Appreciation Committee: Lisa Doornik, Anne Fry, Toni Puccio-Johnson, and Tera Turnbull and Jill Gordley (9th grade campus reps).
VOLUNTEERS: All CISD Volunteers must participate in a background check. Here is the link: https://apps.conroeisd.net/volunteer/ . CISD requires all volunteers to fill out the volunteer form on the website. You only have to do it one time for all schools your children attend. Thank you to all the parents who helped the PTO during orientation. We are sincerely grateful for your help!
STUDENT PLANNERS: Planners are available in the front office of both campuses and cost $5. We are aware that the March 2020 month at a glance pages are incorrect. We apologize for the printing error. The weekly pages are correct. Why purchase a PTO planner? The price is great, and the red/green day calendar, bell schedules, and testing schedules are all included.
