A Note from the Menchaca Team
Dear Menchaca Families,
Get ready for a fun-filled week as we celebrate Read Across America Week! 🎉 This special week is all about sharing the joy of reading, exploring new books, and building a love for storytelling with our little learners. Each day, we’ll have exciting activities that bring books to life, so be sure to ask your child about their favorite stories from the week!
After all the reading fun, it will be time to relax and recharge over Spring Break. We encourage you to take this time to enjoy quality moments together while keeping the learning going in simple and playful ways. Here are some fun, free activities you can do at home with your Pre-K and Kinder students:
📖 Story Time Adventures – Visit your local library or cozy up at home with a good book. Take turns “reading” by letting your child tell the story using the pictures!
🔤 Letter Hunts – Pick a letter of the day and find things around the house or outside that start with that letter. Make it a scavenger hunt for extra fun!
🎨 Creative Crafts – Draw, paint, or make a craft based on a favorite story. Encourage your child to retell the story as they create.
🎶 Rhyme Time Fun – Sing nursery rhymes, make up silly rhyming words, or play a rhyming word game while driving or during bath time.
🌳 Outdoor Learning – Take a nature walk and talk about what you see, hear, and feel. Practice counting steps, spotting colors, or describing different textures.
We hope you enjoy a restful and fun Spring Break! Thank you for your continued support in making learning exciting and meaningful for our young students.
Happy Reading!

To ensure student safety and proper supervision, all students must be picked up no later than 3:00 PM.
Dismissal begins each day at 2:30 P.M. and as a courtesy to parents runs until 3:00 P.M. We understand that unforeseen circumstances can occur, but if you are running late, please contact the front office as soon as possible at 210-882-1610
Sending someone new to pick up your child? Make sure they have the proper pick-up tag!
For the safety of all students, all vehicles must display the correct pick-up tag. If a tag is not present, the driver will be directed to the front office for an ID check before the student is released. Remember additional tags can be purchased in the front office for $5.00 Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe!
A Note From Our Nurse
Christus mobile vaccine clinic will be back at Menchaca on March 18 from 9am - noon. This is a great opportunity for newly turned 4-year-olds to receive their routine vaccines, or for any member of the community (including siblings and parents) to receive routine or catch-up vaccines. It is FREE for Medicaid/ CHIP/ uninsured students and they accept most major insurances. For more information, please contact me at 210-882-1610 ext 4059 or heather.siebert@southsideisd.org.
As a reminder, students must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school. This policy is not meant to be an inconvenience but is essential in keeping our school community healthy and preventing the spread of illness.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe environment for all students and staff. If your child is feeling unwell, please allow them the necessary time to recover before returning to class.
Thank you for your support in prioritizing the health and well-being of our school community.
Did You Know?
Attendance Affects School Funding
Every school day counts—not just for your child’s learning, but also for our school’s funding. In Texas, public schools receive funding based on Average Daily Attendance (ADA), which means that each day a student is absent, the school loses funding.
💰 Why does this matter?
The funding our school receives helps provide important resources like teachers, classroom materials, and student programs. When students miss school, it directly impacts the financial support available to enhance their learning experience.
🏫 What can you do?
- Make school attendance a priority.
- Schedule appointments outside of school hours when possible.
- Encourage your child to attend, even on non-instructional days.
We understand that sometimes absences are unavoidable due to illness or emergencies. If your child must be absent, be sure to send a note to the school to ensure proper documentation. Thank you for your partnership in making every school day count!
For questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact our PEIMS/Attendance Clerks:
