Academics off and rolling!
It is helpful for parents to follow their student's progress via ParentVue. ParentVue includes a variety of ways to monitor student attendance, overall grades, and scores on individual assignments. If you need help accessing this resource, our office team can connect you with support. In addition, students can access a variety of resources through Google Classroom. If you are curious about what your student is studying, ask to see their Google Classroom.
This week in Homeroom, 10th-12th graders will be reviewing transcripts. Transcripts are an important part of a student's academic record. During this time, students will be examining their progress according to their selected diploma type. CHS 9th graders will be learning about the differences between high school and middle school grades, the earning of credits and the building an academic transcript.
We look forward to opening these important conversations with students. If you have questions about your student's academic progress, CHS Academic Counselor, Ms. Pekny, is a great resource!
SBMH Community Workshops
The Corbett School Based Mental Health team would like to know what workshops you all would like to attend this year. Last year, we held once monthly, live, evening workshops at the Corbett Commons. We offered one hour, interactive workshops on topics such as; Screen Addiction & Social Media, Suicide Prevention, Social Skills, LGBTQ+Family Group and Preparing for the Summer.
We want your continued input on wellness and mental health topics that are on your minds. SBMH has created a short survey to collect your thoughts on workshop offerings for the school year. Please take a few moments to answer these survey questions and add any comments that may be helpful in designing these community events.
Supporting Students When Absent
Overall, the Cardinals are doing a great job attending class every day, on time. Each day we review student attendance and identify students who have unexcused absence UX (meaning CHS has not yet heard from a parent), as well as students who have been marked unexcused tardy UT. The following day these students are assigned lunch detention. This strategy helps us follow-up with students and emphasizes the importance of consistently attending class on time.
If a student gets a lunch detention slip and thinks it is a mistake, they have options. If they think the absence should be excused, they simply notify a parent and ask them contact Melinda Tester at 503-261-4226 mtester@corbett.k12.or.us. If a student thinks that they may have been marked absent or tardy by mistake, they can consult their teacher to see if the mark can be changed.
We know that things come up that necessitate absence from school. At Corbett, we want to support students along the way and build the workplace skill of communication when illness, appointments, and life events occur.
Student Clubs: Donations and Supplies Needed
Clubs that are developed and selected by students started this past Thursday. Clubs provide a great time for students to come together through common interests. Some clubs are in need of donated supplies in order to be successful. Please consider donating the following:
Knitting needles, crochet hooks, yarn
School-appropriate card games
Friendship bracelet materials - embroidery thread, beads, parachute cord, lanyard string
Basketballs and Soccer balls
Donations can be delivered via your student to the Super Cool Office in the high school.
Thank you!
CHS Music Update
Thank you to all of the musicians who turned for the CHS Pep Band Friday night. Nothing can match the energy a pep band brings to the game experience!
Families of students in our music programs should have received an email from staff that includes the Corbett Instrumental Music Calendar 24-25. Our music team knows that Cardinal musicians tend to be involved in various activities and so they work hard to create a calendar with as few conflicts as possible.
Members of our Wind Ensemble and High School Strings Ensemble should take note of an important meeting taking place on Tuesday, September 17 at 6pm. Any members of those groups who would like to travel with us to Disneyland at the end of the year should be sure to attend.
School Pictures have Arrived!
School pictures are ready to pick up!
Students may pick up their pictures in the Super Cool Office near the Commons starting Monday before school, during break, lunch, or after school.
If your are interested in retakes, they will be October 10th, 9:00 am-10:15 am in the Gym.

Let's Go Cards!
Last week Cardinal fans sported their Red, White, and Blue in recognition and gratitude of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, and whom have served local communities as first responders. It was great to see this positive energy throughout our sporting events. This week, Cardinal fans will bring the outdoors in with the theme: CAMO.
On Saturday, the Rainier Cross Country Invitational was a resounding success. Despite a very tough course with almost no level surfaces, our runners set season and personal records and placed well. Of the many strong performances, the men’s varsity team of Bryce, Logan M, Zevi, Holden and Oren won the small school division. Vivienne won the women’s varsity race and Claire came in second. Coach Rondema heard from other coaches and parents how impressed they were with the effort of our Cardinal athletes and their positivity. Way to spread Cardinal Energy! Next Up: Wednesday, 9/18 the team will race at the Catlin Gable Invitational.
Women’s Soccer played tough against Stevenson at home on Tuesday. The team held their opponent scoreless well into the second half with a great defensive effort. The Cards took some aggressive shots on goal, but came up short in a close one. On Thursday, the team faced Salem Academy and continued to stay with it all the way. Next Up: The Cards will be back on their home field Tuesday, September 17th @ 4:30 against OES.
The Men’s Soccer Varsity and JV Men’s soccer hit the road last week. Varsity defeated the Western Christian Pioneers 5-4 on 9/10, then battled the OES Aardvarks on their home turf on 9/13. While the Cards gave up their first league loss 2-0, a tough defensive effort by the entire team kept the Aardvark’s offense in check throughout the game. JV traveled to Portland Christian to take on the Royals. The team persevered to grind out a draw 0-0. Big saves from goalie Jordan Chiu and critical stops from defender Gage Galloway led the Cards. Next Up: On Tuesday 9/17, JV heads to OES and Varsity travels to Yamhill-Carlton. They’ll host the Sisters Outlaws on 9/19. Support Men’s Soccer on Saturday, 9/21 for the Gresham Ford “Drive 4UR School” fundraiser. Take a test drive and the program earns $20! For more info, check out our Instagram at Corbett.mens.soccer.
The Football team hosted a tough Gervais team on Friday night. The Cards showed competitive spirit and grit throughout the matchup. The team used capitalized on opportunities forcing turnovers, recovering an onside kick and putting points on the board in the 4th. Cardinal fans were energized by their team to the very end! Next Up: On the road vs. Sheridan Friday 9/20 at 7pm.
The Volleyball team had another great week sweeping their opponents 3-0 in matches on Tuesday vs. Riverdale and at Banks on Thursday. The matches highlighted stabilizing leadership from seniors and contributions throughout the roster. Next Up: At home vs. Warrenton on Tuesday 9/17 6pm. Let’s fill The Nest!
