Summary
Erik Brandt is a half German and half Russian boy. When World War Two breaks out he joined Hitler's Youth. When he was sixteen he was drafted into the German army. He was in a battle with the Russians when his squad was killed and he put a Russian soldier's uniform to survive.

He never gave up on the battle agaist the Russians. He did not what to get killed so he put the uniform on.

Don Wulffson use facts about how German soldiers were trapped behind Russian lines and how this story is true but the names,dates, and place have been changed. About thirty thousand Germans where trapped behind Russian lines and they were dealt with many ways.
