LAST DAY TO SIGN UP FOR SUMMER SCHOOL!
If you wonder how much fun it will be....read this testimony from one of our very own students!
"Summer School"
By: Mason Reiss
Who gets bored during the summer? I know I do. If you do, Summer School is perfect for you! Some grades get to do stem, which means you basically get to do arts and crafts, only leveled up. It's fun! Did you know that Pathfinder and Barry go to the same summer school! So if your Pathfinder friend is doing summer school, you should too! Last year, on the last day of summer school, I got a Main Event ticket for going. Summer School only goes for 1 month and each day is a half of a day. So you basically only have 14 full days. If you want to join me in a paradise full of the funnest things just go to this link below.

A Field Day thank you, to these community groups leading a station!
Hy-Vee dietitian Holly McKee is leading Hy-Vee Health! Hy-Vee is also donating bananas and Gatorades (we will always look at allergies when food is handed out). Dietitians are an excellent way to learn how to build healthy eating habits! To contact Holly, call her at 515-695-3778 or email her at holly.mckee@hy-vee.com You can find the nearest Hy-Vee just west of us off Barry Road at 8301 N St Clair Ave, Kansas City, MO 64151.
Sweet Tooth is leading a water game to teach about daily tooth care and how to use mouthwash! The Sweet Tooth mission is to provide timely, affordable, and outstanding pediatric dentistry and orthodontic care in a fun, safe, and warm environment! Find the newly opened Sweet Tooth office very close to Barry Elementary at 5 NW Barry Rd. Kansas City, MO 64155. (816) 436-8949 / www.sweettoothpdo.com / @sweettoothpdo on Instagram and Tik Tok
Austin Williams was recently a judge at the World Speed Stacks tournament and his visit to Barry got a ton of kids interested in a sport that is growing in the Northland area! Coach Williams will be leading the Speed Stack station! Speed Stacks allows kids of any speed and skill level the opportunity to develop into competitors or even just enjoy a great hand-eye coordination builder in the comfort of their own homes. The WSSA is hosting a tournament later this month on May 26th, and there will be more scheduled for the summer. Registration link for May 26th tournament: https://www.thewssa.com/tournaments/summer-kickoff-online-competition/3506/
Hydration Station, our calmest station, is getting a little more "wild" this year thanks to Aaron Kagay and his team with Missouri Conservation. Mr. Kagay's team helps students understand the essential value of animals in our world and you can find their work on Facebook by searching Smithville Lake-Clay County Parks or the website: claycountymo.gov under "parks" within the department search.
On Friday, May 10th, Barry was very lucky to get Coach Steven & Coach Brian, two tennis professionals from Genesis Health Club, to visit our school, teach our P.E. classes, and run our assembly games for our whole school!
If your child is interested in tennis, Genesis Clayview Tennis has some excellent coaches who help kids love the game and teach them how to stay active! Clayview Tennis has its youth program ongoing (not too late to sign up! Pro Rating and special deals available) and a new session launching May 27th through July 7th and another summer session from July 8th to August 18th. Check out the fliers below!
Speed Stacks
You might have seen a flyer (below) discussing how Coach Mosh has teamed up with Speed Stacks to sell Sport Stacking Cups in P.E.
Why is P.E. selling these?
- Sports Stacks is something any kid or adult of any skill level can compete in and enjoy. It can be practiced inside or outside and the KC Sport Stack scene is growing!
- The World Sports Stack Association (WSSA) is hosting a Free Online tournament later this month on May 26th, and there will be more scheduled for the summer.
- Plus, 20% is coming back to P.E. (not me personally haha) to help us split a full Sports stack cup package with Barry PTA!
- Registration link for the May 26th tournament: https://www.thewssa.com/tournaments/summer-kickoff-online-competition/3506/
- The flyer says print a receipt but no need to. I will see the order online and deliver the items ordered to your student the next school day!
If you're interested in ordering some cups from P.E. scan the QR code on the flyer below! If not, no worries! Kids will experience Sport Stacking in P.E. The order deadline is Friday, May 17th. Email masciovj@platteco.k12.mo.us with any questions!

Field Day is May 17th! Check out this parent info packet for details!
What do I need to do until Field Day?
Field Day is a good day for old clothes, tennis shoes, and a water bottle. We will have disposable cups for kids who forgot a bottle.
We do ask that each grade level shares a unified color!
Kindergarten: Red
1st: Orange
2nd: Yellow
3rd: Green
4th: Blue
5th: Black
Swimsuits can be worn under the childβs clothing as we will be doing some water games.
Contact the school nurse with any specific/new medical concerns the school has not yet received a doctorβs note on.
Lunch choices were made in April. Parents who informed their teacher that they will be sending a home lunch with their child will need to have it ready for Friday, May 17th.
Outside of school lunch, each kid will get one Andyβs Ice Cream (or Pop Ice/another treat if they have allergies).
Students will be outside for a little over an hour and a half. Sunscreen is to be applied by the parents & guardians before school.
If you have extra sunscreen needs for your child, send those to the nurse and provide sunscreen.
Spray sunscreen is preferred and it helps to label the bottle!
It is recommended to have the child put on sunscreen before coming to school.
What if I have more questions?
- Please feel free to ask Coach Mosh!!

NEW CDC GUIDELINES
Hello!
The CDC no longer requires 5 days of quarantine after a COVID diagnosis. That means the district also no longer requires a 5 day quarantine for staff or students. You are required to stay home until symptoms improve and no fever for 24 hours on no medication - just like our guidance for other illnesses.

Auditions are open for the Youth Chorus of Kansas City 2024-2025 season!
For our elementary singers, YCKC's next season includes performances with the Kansas City Current at their new CPKC Stadium, a performance at the Kauffman Center with the Spire Chamber choir, and much more.
YCKC offers a safe, inviting, and inclusive rehearsal environment centrally located in the Kansas City Metro. Scholarship support is available, and we proudly offer financial aid for 100% of requests. Our goal is that financial barriers never prevent a student from participating.
YCKC is growing in every way each year! The next season marks the first year of YCKC Etude for young singers in grades K-2.
Please consider sharing this opportunity with the family of a singer today! To learn more or register for an audition, visit youthchoruskc.org/auditions

π Safe Schools
Bullying and Safety Concerns: Online Reporting System
Safety is one of our districtβs top priorities, and to help safeguard our school community, our District uses Safe Schools Alert, a tip reporting service by Vector Solutions, that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration.
You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through this online reporting system. On the homepage of the District website (www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com) and on each school building's homepage there is a Safe Schools quicklink which links to the reporting tool. Every tip Vector Solutions receives about our District is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. Tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer. Together, we can make our District a safer place to learn.
π Lunch Visitor Sign Up & Menus
Parents & Guardians,
We love that many of you take the time to come eat with your children! To help the staff in the lunchroom we would appreciate if you could please follow the expectations listed below:
- Please only invite your specific children to eat with you.
- Help your children follow the lunchroom expectations the rest of the cafeteria is asked to follow like remaining at the table until their class is dismissed.
- When you have finished your lunchtime, please return to the front office rather than making rounds through the cafeteria to say hello to other students. The other students would love a wave though!
Thank you for wanting to be a part of our school community and we'll see you at lunch!
