Oakdale Elementary's Monthly Newsletter | November 2024
From the Principal
Thank you so much to all the room parent volunteers who made our Halloween parties so enjoyable yesterday. The planning and preparation made the parties a huge success. I am sure it will be nice to recover from the long night, sugar high, and excitement with a weekend of relaxation and an extra hour of sleep on Sunday. Hopefully you all get to chance to do that.
Several events are coming up in the months of November and December. Please spend some time perusing this newsletter to see all the happenings. With the onset of cooler weather, please make sure you are sending your child(ren) out the door with appropriate attire. We go outside every day for recess unless the feels-like temperature is below 10 degrees. Fall mornings can be quite chilly. Additionally, please remind your child(ren) to check the lost and found for any misplaced jackets. It is currently overflowing and we don't have enough hangers!
These next couple of months are my favorite time of year. The chill in the air, frost in the mornings, festive fall colors, and the feelings associated with all the holidays coming up. Even though our calendars start to fill up, I hope you are all able to spend some quality family time throughout these months as that is what is most important. Enjoy your weekend and I will see you all on Monday!

Letters to Veterans
In order to thank our service men and women, Oakdale students would like to send personalized thank you notes to Veterans. Please help us by clicking on the button below to fill out a form providing the name and address of a Veteran by Sunday, November 3rd. We will then send a thank you note via U.S. Post to the identified current or former service member. This activity has turned out to be one of our students' favorite activities as we frequently receive letters back from our veterans. The information, stories, dedication, honor, and perseverance they have shown is tremendous and inspiring to our students! Thank you for your assistance in honoring, celebrating, and thanking Oakdale's veterans.
Golden High 5 Winners
At the end of the quarter, we draw names and the winner's whole class earns the prize. Congratulations to the first quarter Golden High 5 winners: Analia R.-M. in Mrs. Pontious's 2nd grade earned lunch in the outdoor classroom for her whole class, Hudson V. in Mr. Miller's 5th grade earned gym time for his whole class, and Amer C. in Mrs. Schmitz's 6th grade earned an extra recess for his whole class. Nice job, Tigers!
Unified Sensory Make and Take Event
Join us on Saturday, November 9th, from 10:00-11:00 am, as we partner with Loveland Elementary and host November's Unified Event. Students will be able to participate in several different stations focused on sensory input in our gym, cafeteria, and music room. This event is open to all students of all ages. We hope to see you there!
Calling All Veterans!
We are excited to honor our Oakdale Community Veterans this Veterans Day with a special school assembly on Monday, November 11th at 9:30 AM. Please talk with your Tiger about the veterans who may be in your family or circle of friends to invite them to our special event! On this day all members of the Oakdale Community of Learners will be wearing red, white, and blue. Due to seating and parking limitations, our assembly will include only our students, staff, and our special veterans and their families/guests.
3rd & 4th Grade Music Program
Join us on Tuesday, November 12th, at the Westside Middle School Performing Arts Center to see our 3rd and 4th grade music program. The performance starts at 7:00 pm and all are welcome to attend.
For the 3rd & 4th grade performers:
- Please dress nicely
- Arrive between 6:45-6:50 (another performance is taking place before ours)
- Students are asked to remain seated with their families in the auditorium seats until invited to come up on stage
8th Annual Turkey Trot
Please see the flyer below for information regarding this year's Trot. Feel free to come watch the race as it is an outdoor event. However, please be cognizant that there will be NO PARKING on property during the event. We utilize part of our drop off lane and parking lot for the race. Additionally, the race lasts just a short time and students will be returning to their classrooms for instruction the remainder of the day.
However, if you would still like to view your student's grade level race, please park in the church parking lot or in the neighborhood and view the race from the soccer field. Be on the lookout for our Turkey mascot getting the students ready to Trot to victory!
All School Field Trip
Thanks to the generosity of the Oakdale Community Club, and all your support, the entire Oakdale student body will be taking field trips to the newly renovated Joslyn Art Museum in the month of November! Our art teacher, Mrs. Gollehon, organized the event, which is a scheduling feat of meticulous planning! Buses will be shuttling students back and forth on three separate days for students to see the new building and participate in an art making class at their studios. Be on the lookout for more information from your classroom teachers about dates, lunches, and expectations.
Medication at School
For your child’s safety and for the safety of others, all medication, including cough drops/throat lozenges, must be kept locked in the health office and must be in the original package. All medication needs to be accompanied by a medication form signed by the parent or guardian. All prescription medication forms must be signed by the doctor (or the doctor's office can fax it to us at 402.390.2164). Whenever possible, the medication should be administered at home.
