The Fowler Weekly
September 2-6, 2024
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Good Day All,
It was so energizing to see over 80% of our families in attendance at the Welcome Back event. Thank you all for the warm welcome as your principal. Please know that if you were not able to attend your student will be able to get their schedule and iPad on their first day. I want to give a big shout out to our secretarial staff, custodial staff, classified staff, teachers, leadership students and volunteers for making the event run smoothly.
September is School Attendance Awareness Month. Please help your students build good attendance habits early in the school year so they can yield all the benefits academically, socially and to improve our school culture. A student is considered chronically absent if they miss more than one school day every two weeks. Chronic absence affects all kids, not just the absent ones so let’s be present and be powerful!
We apologize for the confusion regarding the messaging around PE inuforms at the Welcome Back Event. The actual requirement is that students wear athletic clothing and athletic shoes during PE. Our PE uniforms are offered as a convenience for families.
There is a lot of important information in this weekly newsletter so please see all the information below including bus routes, how to pick up/drop off, and more! I can’t wait to see all the students here this week!

HAPPENINGS
It’s a long one…but please take a few minutes to read through all of this information. We want to make sure we’ve communicated all of the important information you need to know as we open the 2024-2025 school year.
We will welcome only our 6th graders on Tuesday, September 3, from 8:30am-12:30pm. They will spend the day familiarizing themselves with Fowler. NOTE: They will NOT need their iPads on Tuesday. Please leave them at home.
When they arrive at school that day, they will come into the commons area where they will find their name tag (alphabetical by last name) with their morning meeting teacher printed on it. There will be many staff members and leadership students available to help students find their way.
The day's schedule will include:
fun activities & opportunities to meet other students
walking through their schedule & meeting their teachers
opportunities to practice opening their locker
lunch & activity time
learning about dismissal and how to find their bus
All 6th graders will get a new copy of their schedule on this day so no need to worry if it goes missing between last Wednesday’s Welcome Back Event & the first day of school. The entire Fowler staff will be ready, available and eager to support our 6th graders in this new adventure!
Tuesday afternoon from 2-3pm we will welcome our 7th & 8th grade students who are new to Fowler to spend some time with our school counselors, get a special orientation, and meet our admin team. They will also receive their iPad at the orientation.
Wednesday, September 4, is the first day for our 7th and 8th graders.
IT WILL BE A LATE START arrival. 9:30am-3:10pm.
Students will need to check their 1st period teacher on the posters posted around the Commons.
Locate their name on the list (alphabetical by last name)
Find, or verify, their 1st period teacher and room number.
Proceed to 1st period.
There will be many extra hands on deck helping students locate this information and find where they need to go if they are unsure. Once they arrive in their 1st period class, they will receive a new copy of their schedule which will also include their locker assignment. There have been some schedule changes since the Welcome Back Event last week so it’s important that all students double check their 1st period teacher Wednesday morning when they arrive at school.
School Supply Kits: If you were unable to pick up your student’s school supply kit last Wednesday, please have them check with the Main Office to secure it. If you have any questions, please contact Abbey Gambill at (503)431-5020 or email her at agambill@ttsd.k12.or.us.
Many students may want to change their schedule. While there are certainly reasons that would warrant a schedule change, schedules will only be changed for very specific reasons such as they are missing a class, they are placed in the wrong class, they have the same class twice. Please click here for more information and examples regarding schedule change requests. If it turns out that there is a reason for the change, encourage your student to stop by the Counseling Center on their lunch to complete a request.
ALL STUDENTS: Please make sure your student knows their HOME ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER. We want to be sure that dismissal goes smoothly and ensure we get students home safely.
Locker Assignments:
A student’s locker number, the general location and the combination are also located on StudentVue, so the student can always have access to it. The information is located under STUDENT INFO.
If you have moved or need to update phone numbers or emergency contacts for your student, please do so via ParentVue. We did not send home a verification sheet, but would appreciate it if you take the time to make sure everything we have on file is correct. Follow these steps:
Sign into ParentVue
Your student(s) will show and underneath the picture and name there will be white pop-up box that says, “Verify Student Information” Click on Begin.
The next page will say “ONLINE ENROLLMENT/VERIFICATION”. Click on the box that says “Update Student Information”
All of your TTSD students will be listed, click the blue “Save and Continue” button and proceed through the information, making changes where needed. (at some point you may feel like you are re-enrolling them…be sure to roll all the way to the bottom of the page where it says “Verification”)
If your student needs medication during the school day, please complete the appropriate form at the bottom of this page. prior to bringing in the medication. This will expedite the process tremendously. This includes prescription and non-prescription medication. All medication must be in its original container. NOTE: Students under 15 are not allowed to transport medication (including over the counter) by state law. It must be brought in by a parent/guardian.
Fowler students that are in need of free school supplies, please reach out to our Family Partnership Advocate, Victor Romo, at vromo@ttsd.k12.or.us, or call him at (503)431-5054.
We are planning on recognizing student birthdays this year via display in the Commons. If there is a reason that you do not want your student’s birthday (minus the year) displayed, please complete this form so that we can honor your request. We will work to include students whose birthday falls on a non-school day, i.e., summer birthdays on their half birthday.

GETTING TO AND FROM SCHOOL
For students riding a bus, their bus, pick-up time and pick-up (and drop-off) location should be available on ParentVue and StudentVue. It is located under the “Student Info” tab. Roll to the bottom, and if your student has a bus route based on the address we have on file, it will look like this:
We are told that it is easier to locate on a browser versus the app. Look for it on a computer or tablet if possible. If you are NOT able to locate it on ParentVue, here is the link to the Bus Routes for Fowler Middle School.
Bicycles, scooters and skateboards are not allowed to be ridden on school property. Students will need to dismount and walk it in when they arrive at Fowler.
If your student rides a bicycle to school, we have several bike racks located to the right of the Main Entrance for them to secure their bike. They will need to provide their own lock to secure their bike.
If your student rides a scooter or skateboard, they will need to secure it on the rack inside the vestibule as they arrive. They will need their own lock in order to do so. Padlocks and chain bike locks both work. Scooters and skateboards do not typically fit in most of our lockers.
If you drop-off your student or pick-up your student, please take a moment to read the following Drop-Off and Pick-Up instructions. We consider the parking lot directly in front of the school closed between 8-8:45am and 3-3:30pm. It is imperative that these instructions are followed for the safety of our students.
Morning Drop-off:
Do not drop-off in the front of the school between 8:00-8:45am.
Drop-off in the parking lot near the tennis courts, using the entrance on Walnut St.
Afternoon Pick-up:
Do not pick-up in front of the school building between 3:00-3:30.
Enter Driveway on Walnut St. (near tennis courts).
Proceed forward and park in any available space.
When all spaces are occupied, a row of cars will form around the inner island of spaces.
The outside lane will be left open for passing cars.
DO NOT STOP in the outside lane, you may keep circling around if you did not get your student on the first run by the loading zone.
Students wait on the sidewalk by the baseball field house.
Pick up students in the loading zone or in your parking space.
An adult will be in the parking lot daily to assist in the crosswalk.
Our goal is to have the lot empty by 3:25.
CHANGE: Exiting the lot will be RIGHT TURN ONLY during pick-up and drop-off times. Please plan accordingly.
HELPFUL TIDBITS
Our school hours are as follows:
Monday 8:30am-3:10pm
Tuesday 8:30am-3:10pm
Wednesday 9:30am-3:10pm
Thursday 8:30am-3:10pm
Friday 8:30am-3:10pm
This is our normal bell schedule. There will be times throughout the year when we will be on an alternate schedule. When this happens, we will post the different bell schedule in the “WEEKLY SCHEDULE” section below.
Information regarding deliveries for students:
For a variety of reasons (including safety), we do NOT accept food deliveries from DoorDash, Uber Eats, GrubHub or other delivery services for students during the school day. This also includes floral deliveries and/or balloon deliveries for celebrations.
We DO accept deliveries from parents/guardians: homework, iPads, lunches and any other necessary items. We will communicate with the student that the item is there in order for them to know it can be picked up in the Main Office.
BUS NOTES: Students riding home with a friend need to bring a written note from their parent/guardian that includes the student name that they will be riding home with and the bus number they will be riding. The note should be brought to the Main Office PRIOR to the end of the day for a stamp. (Example: Mickey Mouse has my permission to ride bus number 56 home with Donald Duck today, 9/15/23. Parent Signature.) Parents may email permission to fowleroffice@ttsd.k12.or.us and we will get the note signed and to your student.
We communicate primarily via email. Occasionally, we will text you, and even less frequently, we will roll a phone call. Our emails come out each Sunday evening at 6:00pm. We hope that you will take the time to check out the information we share through The Fowler Weekly.
