Hey Roos,

April is here, and we have some very important reminders. First, please make sure you get your student’s online registration completed before April 4, 2025. ALL KISD students through 11th grade MUST complete the online student registration. Any students who do not complete online student registration by April 4, 2025, will become inactive in our system, will not have a schedule for next year, and will have to register as new students.

Our students begin an important journey this month as STAAR testing upon us. All students are required to take STAAR End of Course (EOC) exams for Algebra I, English I, English II, US History, and Biology, and they must score approaches or higher in these five tested areas to graduate. Check the dates and be sure your student is at school. We do not want them to miss an opportunity to show us how much they have grown this year!

April is a busy month as we have so many things to celebrate. Assistant Principal appreciation week is April 7th - 11th, followed by Administrative Professionals Day, which happens on April 23, 2025. I do not know what we would do without these ROOTASTIC staff members. They do so many things behind the scenes, and I am beyond grateful to work with such amazing humans. 😍

Additionally, April is also a time when we celebrate and recognize military-connected students. Did you know Killeen High School is a Purple Star Designated Campus? The Purple Star Campus Designation recognizes Texas schools who show their support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families. If you are new to KHS or Killeen ISD, I encourage you to visit the following link (https://www.killeenisd.org/domain/7237) for more information on how we support our military connected students. Be sure to wear purple on April 15th, which is Purple Up Day, to honor our military children!

Be sure to follow us on social media as we have so many events happening in the Spring, and please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming celebrations, and as always, Let’s Go BIG ROOS!

Kangaroo Parents & Fans:

We encourage all of our students to attend our Athletic & Fine Arts events and support our Roos and Lady Roos! Please make plans for students to be picked up from any extracurricular event within 15 minutes of the event ending. Campus administrators will be present to remind students to contact parents for rides before the event has ended. Students who are not picked up in a timely manner may not be able to attend future events.

Thank you for helping us get everyone home safely and timely after our extracurricular events!

What Should I Do During Power Hour? What Should I Do During Power Hour?

Power Hour Schedule
Click the link to view the Tutoring, Club and Activities schedules for Power Hour.

To get the most out of Power Hour, make sure to schedule your time in advance!

Get the Power Hour schedule from each of your teachers, and note the days that they offer tutoring and the times that club sponsors have meetings. Spend half of your Power Hour time each day eating lunch and the other half attending a tutoring or club meeting. Both options are accessible, depending on when your teachers offer tutoring and when clubs or activities are scheduled.

Take advantage of this opportunity to improve your academics!

Positive Referrals Positive Referrals

We believe in catching kids doing great thinks! Students at KHS can receive positive referrals for demonstrating our Kangaroo values and characteristics!

At Killeen High School, we have a set of values that represent our campus. These values are School Pride, Relationships, Collaboration, Success, and Integrity. When we see our students embodying our values and completing positive, thoughtful acts around campus we like to celebrate them with our "Positive Referrals".

Embracing a phone-free policy in Killeen Independent School District (KISD) enhances academic achievement by minimizing distractions and maximizing instructional time. This initiative not only supports school safety efforts but also fosters an environment conducive to learning, where students can fully engage in their studies and interact meaningfully with their peers and teachers. By reducing cellphone-related disruptions, we create a safer, more focused, and supportive educational atmosphere for everyone.

Secondary campuses began issuing pouches, training students on expectations and implementing procedures beginning on August 14. Parents/guardians can submit questions via email: phonefreeschools@killeenisd.org.
