The Online Annual Update for returning families must be completed by May 23, 2024 (please note that the deadline was previously given as May 23, 2025 in error). GET READY FOR PRAIRIE DAY!
We need just a few more volunteers!
Thanks to everyone who has already volunteered to help make Prairie Day the best day of the year! We still need a little help, so please SIGN UP HERE for any of the following:
Early morning set-up (7:00-8:30 AM)
Lawn Games – Can you let us borrow a lawn game? (bags, badminton, giant Jenga, etc.)
Shade Tents – We could use 2 more to borrow.
Rain Date volunteers
Please email our Prairie Day Co-Chairs Brittany Piszynski, Julie Belloli and Blaine Kosek if you have any questions.
As you prepare your student(s) for Prairie Day, here are a few reminders:
We are asking students to wear their grade level Amazing Prairie Dog Fun Run shirt that was purchased for each student. Additionally, please ensure they wear clothing appropriate for outdoor physical activity: shorts/pants, sweatshirts/hoodies, socks and ATHLETIC SHOES.
Please send your child with a water bottle for the day. This is an outdoor event with lots of activities, and we want to make sure that everyone stays hydrated.
Please apply any sunscreen to your child BEFORE leaving home.
Students can bring a hat or sunglasses.
Some activities involve water and students may get wet. Send your child with extra clothing and socks, just in case.
We are having a whole school picnic so school lunch lines may be a bit longer. If possible, bring a lunch from home to ensure your Prairie Dog is well-fueled.
While this is an exciting day for students, we are expecting all Prairie Dogs to follow Prairie PRIDE expectations. Students that struggle with behavior may be removed from activities and provided an alternative activity. Please reinforce Prairie PRIDE expectations with your student(s) as they prepare for this exciting day!
National School Nurse Day
May 8, 2024
Wait, what?! It was last week?
Last Wednesday, May 8 was National School Nurse Day!
Nurses are modern superheroes. They put others before themselves and act selflessly to help others every day. Whether you are sick at school or a patient in a hospital, nurses look after us and help us feel better so we can get well!
Home & School loves our Prairie School Nurse, Ms. Accardo, and Health Technician, Ms. Wood,
and will be thanking them with a gift. Please encourage your child to say thank you to them in their own special way (a kind word, a card, a craft, or any way they want!). We are so thankful for both Ms. Accardo & Ms. Wood for supporting our students and staff.
If you would like to contact our school nurse and health tech to let them know how much you appreciate them, their emails are jaccardo@naperville203.org and AWood@Naperville203.org.
Come and Enjoy the Kindergarten Program

THIS WEEK in the Prairie Multipurpose Room
ALL ARE WELCOME!!
Please note that there is more than one Kindergarten Program. Be sure to attend the program for your child's class:

Mrs. Smith: 6:00 PM
Mrs. LaPerna: 6:30 PM
💖Thank you from Kindergarten!💖
Kindergarten would like to thank the Prairie School Community for helping us help others. We learned that all people need food but not all people have food. We used writing to tell people about our Food Drive, the more people we told, the more food we collected and the more people we helped. On Tuesday, May 7, Kindergarten families delivered 1,070 pounds of food to the West Suburban Food Pantry! Thank you, Prairie School!
Adopt A Garden This Summer!
Sign up to keep our garden thriving!
What is Adopt-the-Garden?
This is how we make sure the Prairie Garden doesn’t shrivel up during the summer break! Families from the Prairie community can sign up to take care of the Garden for one week and in return take home the fresh vegetables and herbs they harvested. Everything growing in the Garden was planted by Garden Club students.
How does it work?
Participants choose a week in June, July or August where they commit to visiting the garden at least three times to water, weed and harvest the garden beds. We have a super cool irrigation system that makes watering easy!!! We need three families per week. No experience necessary! All instructions, tools and equipment are provided.
Why participate?
The Prairie Garden provides garden-based learning opportunities to Prairie students during the Spring and Fall. When you adopt the Garden for a week you’re making sure the vegetables and herbs planted by the Garden Club thrive during the growing season. And you get to take home the fresh produce you harvested!
How will I know what to do?
Easy-to-follow instructions will be posted in the garden shed and made available electronically. Families who have signed up will be required to attend one Garden orientation to learn how to use the watering equipment and to become familiar with basic garden maintenance. Orientation takes place in the Garden on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 AM or Monday, May 20 at 7:00 PM.
How do I sign up?
Signups are on a first-come, first-served basis. A Sign Up Genius link will be sent out via Talk 203 on Monday, May 13 at 9:00 AM.
If you have questions about the Adopt-the-Garden Program or anything related to the Prairie Garden please email Sarah Sommer or Jenny Bouchier-Hayes.
Thank you and Happy Gardening!!!
Sarah and Jenny :)
5TH GRADE PARENTS
The Final Days are near...
Only the pool party and the clap out are left! And then what?
5TH GRADE CLAP OUT - THURSDAY, MAY 23 at 2:15 PM
On Thursday, May 23, we will celebrate the transition of our 5th graders to middle school with a whole building clap out. Families are invited to greet their 5th grader on the South blacktop outside Door 14 to celebrate this milestone. We have invited former Prairie students that graduated from high school this year to lead the 5th graders in the clap out. We will be starting the clap out at around 2:15 PM.
Please reach out to Beth Grubich with any questions.
5th Grade Panoramic Photo
The panoramic photo of our 5th grade students has already been taken and it looks GREAT! A framed copy of this panoramic photo will proudly be displayed outside the 5th grade classrooms until our 5th graders graduate from high school!
5th Grade Families can get their own copy of this class photo by clicking here:
Remember to Return All Library Books
Return by Monday, May 13
Hello Prairie Families!
We have loved seeing your kids in the library this school year and helping them find books to enjoy. Now that the school year is coming to a close, we need to gather up all of the library materials. Please help your Prairie Dogs locate and return all of their library books.
We are asking that ALL books be returned by Monday, May 13. We hope you have a wonderful summer relaxing together!
Thanks so much!
Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Atkins
Pay It Forward!
Return Your Wishtree Book for Future Use
This year, SFCP was proud to introduce the book Wishtree, by Katherine Applegate, to the Prairie Community for our All-School Read. SFCP is grateful to Home & School and to Prairie Elementary for providing the funds to purchase close to 400 Wishtree books!
In an effort to spread the joyful experience of reading this wonderful book, we are asking families to return their book to SFCP. We will then give the returned books to another Naperville 203 elementary school to use for their All-School Read. Our hope is to create a tradition of passing books from school to school in order to facilitate community reading and to drastically reduce the cost of these events. Please note that you are free to keep the book. Return of the book is completely voluntary.
Simply have your child bring the book back to school and give to his/her teacher. We will collect the books for future use at another school. Thank you so much for all of your support this year! We look forward to more fun and enriching events in the next school year!
Lost and Found
Do you see any of your kid's stuff here?
It is time for our last Lost & Found clean-out! Students and adults are welcome to go through the bin to find missing items. All items will be collected and donated on May 21, 2024.

School Supply Kits for 2024-2025
Home & School provides the school supply kit service, in partnership with School Tool Box, to give parents/guardians a convenient way to buy school supplies in a comprehensive kit compared to purchasing independently. From markers to notebooks to even paper towels and wet wipes, all of the teacher requested classroom supplies are included in these kits.
To purchase your kit
- Visit the School Tool Box site
- Select the zip code and then select our school - ‘Prairie Elementary.'
- Orders will be accepted until Sunday, June 16, 2024.
- If you do not see email confirmation of your order, please check your spam folder.
School supply kits will be ready for pickup before the start of the school year, so once you purchase online, your student(s) are covered! Please remember to order the supply kit for the grade your child will be entering for the 2024-2025 school year.
If you have any questions, please contact Carolyn Buckingham (cforgue@gmail.com) or Anne Walker (annewalker011@gmail.com).

ONE COMMITTEE CHAIR POSITION STILL NEEDED!
Only the CO-VENTURES committee still needs a Chair (actually two) for next school year (2024-2025).
This committee coordinates monthly fundraising partnerships with various community businesses throughout the school year. Fundraisers can include Shop-n-Share at local businesses and designated “Eat Out” days at local restaurants with proceeds benefiting Prairie H&S. The commitment level for this committee is medium and usually once a month throughout the school year.
If you are considering being a chair of Co-Ventures, please contact Stuart S. Hong, H&S Vice President.
NEWS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Kindergarten and 2nd Grade Dental Forms Due May 15
This is a reminder that all Kindergarten and 2nd grade dental forms are due to the health office on Wednesday, May 15. Dental Exams must be on the Illinois form and the exam needs to have taken place between November 15, 2022 and May 15, 2024.
Absences
A friendly reminder that all student absences need to be reported to the health office/attendance line at (630) 420-6350, or through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Messages may be left at any time or day of the week. When leaving a message, please leave your student’s name, grade, teacher, and reason for your child’s absence. If we do not receive a message or notification from you when your child is absent, we are required by Illinois law to call you and inquire about their absence for safety reasons. While it is certainly permissible to email your child’s teacher of their absence, reliance on emails for attendance become problematic when staff are absent.
Donations Welcome
We are in need of donations of sweatpants and leggings for both boys and girls that need to change their clothes due to a variety of reasons. If you have any of these items in any size, your donations to the health office would be much appreciated!

Amanda Wood, Health Technician
Please contact Stuart Hong (prairieschoolvp@gmail.com) with any questions, changes or submissions for the WAAG. Submissions for the following week's WAAG are due by noon on the prior Wednesday.
