We are excited to welcome our students back to school and celebrate the beginning of the school year. The first day of school is Tuesday, August 13 for all students, grades 6-8. In this communication you will find information on a variety of topics to help you and your child to successfully start the year. Look for additional information in the coming days and weeks via our weekly Falcon Flyer as well as targeted community emails.

On Monday, August 12 we welcome 6th grade students as they start their first day of school! Students may begin arriving at 7:15. School begins at 7:51 and students will be dismissed at 10:00. Buses will run.

This day is intended to welcome our students, acclimate them to the building and classes, and prep them for the first day of school! They are welcome to bring their school supplies to put into their lockers, but they will not need them on the first day.

The OTMS staff is so excited to celebrate the beginning of the year and welcome our amazing students. When your students arrive home this evening, hopefully they will share some of their enthusiasm for the new school year with you. Back to school night is an opportunity for you to see the school, meet our staff, and learn a little bit of information about the year ahead.

Our Back to School Night is this Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 6-8 pm (the first full day of school). Our format is different from what you may be familiar with. You will not follow your child’s full schedule while moving from classroom to classroom. Instead, our format is intended to provide more flexibility with your schedules and better meet the needs of all our families. Also, it minimizes transitions of large groups of people.

Prior to Wednesday evening, we ask that you review ParentVue or Canvas and visit with your child so you know who your student’s teachers are. We will not be printing schedules for this night. Also, take a bit of time to review the schedule below. Our format allows you to choose which sessions you want to attend.

For some families, they may choose to visit one grade level presentation and the electives session. For other families, they may have more than one student in different grade levels. The schedule allows them to attend two different grade levels and the elective session. Please note: these sessions start at a specific time so if you arrive late, please be mindful of this. I would encourage you to either quietly join a session or wait in the hallways until a new session begins.

The only thing that we ask is that you stay for the duration of a rotation so that you do not miss any important information or disrupt any of the presentations. If you plan to attend a later session, please be quiet as you arrive. We will have signs throughout our entryway directing you to specific presentations. We have also allowed for 10 minutes between presentations should you wish to peek into classrooms.

3 Sessions: Families choose the sessions they wish to attend in the order they wish to attend them! The first grade-level presentation is usually the best-attended. If the first session is crowded, please feel free to attend the elective session first.

PARKING: During an all-school function, the OTMS/OTE parking lots fill up quickly. You will need to park in lots and on neighborhood side streets. You may also take advantage of a later presentation. Please allow extra time to arrive and park prior to the start of our program. We look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night. It is going to be another great year at Overland Trail Middle School.

Before requesting a schedule change for elective classes, please make sure you have reviewed your child’s entire 24-25 schedule on ParentVue to see if the desired classes are scheduled for another quarter or semester. All schedule changes are reviewed by school administration. If space is available, we make every effort to accommodate schedule requests.

To request a schedule change, students need to fill out a request to change classes Google Form which will be available on the OTMS Student Canvas page. Parents will need to approve this change via email confirmation. All requests should be submitted by the end of the day on Friday, August 16, 2024.

· FAN NIGHT – The first Falcon Activity Night (FAN) of the year will take place on Friday, September 13. Mark your calendars and watch for more details coming soon about this fun evening for your students!
