Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our school is partnering with Mutual Ground, Inc. to provide Sexual Abuse Prevention Education programming to our students. Mutual Ground is a social service agency located in Aurora, Illinois, and has been presenting these programs to local school districts for many years.
Legislation in our state called Erin’s Law now requires all public schools in Illinois to develop a comprehensive plan for sexual abuse awareness and prevention education. As a part of our plan, Mutual Ground’s Prevention Education Department will be presenting a Personal Body Safety Program in all preschool classrooms at Ann Reid Early Childhood Center, Maplebrook Elementary School, and Scott Elementary School. This program will discuss sexual abuse prevention at an age appropriate level for our students as outlined below.
This year, presentations will be held in person as state and local guidelines allow. Classrooms will have one 15-20 minute presentation. Each Personal Body Safety Program will cover topics such as:
Learning/reviewing the safety rule “No one should touch your private parts except to keep you healthy” and the Safety Plan: “Yell No, Get Away, Tell An Adult”
Discussing the difference between Safe vs. Unsafe Secrets and Situations
Empowering students to trust their instincts and tell an adult when unsafe situations arise
Mutual Ground has provided parent information via video https://www.mutualgroundlearning.org/
The video is available in English and in Spanish. This video is an opportunity to hear about the presentation your child will be receiving, an opportunity to learn about Erin’s Law, and what we can do as a parent and community to help prevent sexual abuse. We highly recommend reviewing this information for all parents. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Tina Bleakley, Mutual Ground’s Prevention Education Coordinator, at (630) 897-0084 X137.
Our school is committed to the safety and well-being of our students, and that is why we feel that providing this programming is so important. If you DO NOT want your child to attend the classroom presentations, please complete this OPT OUT form.
Estimados Padres y Tutores,
