Bucyrus Literacy Corner
September 1, 2022, Volume II, Issue 1
Local Literacy News:
Since the 2021-22 school year ended, staff members have attended local professional learning sessions on creating writing checklists and rubrics and incorporating scaffolds and strategies in the classroom to enhance writing instruction. Throughout the 2022-23 school year, there will be additional coaching sessions with a Keys to Literacy provider as well as structured writing training with the local literacy consultants.
The literacy program is funded through the Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant or CLSD. The four-year subgrant focuses on developing model comprehensive literacy sites in early childhood education programs and district preschools as well as elementary, middle, and high schools across the state. As a model site, Bucyrus will concentrate on implementing practices consistent with Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement.
This is the third year that Bucyrus City Schools has participated in the grant. Next year (2023-24) is the fourth and final year of the grant.
