The Cardinal Connection
Weekly Update for Cardinal O'Connell ELC
April 7, 2025
Hello Cardinal Community,
Last week, our behavior support teacher-coach, Kara and I participated in the Playful Learning Institute, a grant funded initiative by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). It was a wonderful training with so many ideas that will enrich our praxctices at the Cardinal. We will be working hand in hand with DESE to implement the playful leanring concepts at the Cardinal next year! You can read more about it here.
Spring conferences will be held on April 30th. Your student's teacher will reach out to you to schedule in the next few weeks!
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Kerry Wilcox
Principal at the Cardinal

Remember.. Kindergarten Registration is REQUIRED!
If your child is going to kindergarten in the 25-26 school year, they must be registered with Lowell Public Schools, even if they were registered for preschool. There are a few dates left at some of the schools where you can stop in and register with family resource staff (see flyer below). You can also do it online www.lowell.k12.ma.us/registration or in person at the Family Resource Center (151 Merrimack Street)
Spotlight on ATTENDANCE
Did you know....
Showing up on time every day is important to your child's success and learning from preschool forward.
Missing 10% of school (1 or 2 days every few weeks) can make it harder to:
*Gain early reading and math skills.
*Build relationships.
* Develop good attendance habits.
High quality preschool and kindergarten has many benefits!
*The routines your child develops will continue throughout school.
*Make the most of early grades by encouraging your child to attend every day.
