THE POW/MIA OR MISSING MAN TABLE
The POW/MIA Missing Man Table ceremony is a dignified and solemn moment in many formal dinners and other occasions. There have been many different narratives written for the ceremony, but the symbolism is quite constant. It involves a table, usually set off to the side, with a single chair.
Set at the table is a plate containing a slice of lemon and a small amount of salt. The table is set with a white tablecloth, a single candle, a book of faith (optional), an inverted glass, and a single red rose in a vase, around which is tied a red or yellow ribbon.
There is nothing more poignant than witnessing the empty chair sitting at a POW/MIA table with incredible significance for every displayed feature of this ritual.
Witnessing the ceremony that accompanies this memorable event brings more than just a single emotion. The ceremony is performed many times, throughout the year, at official military events in remembrance and in honor of all POW/MIAs.

HEALTHY DEVICES MAKE FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE
Take care of your MacBook during the winter season! Leaving your MacBook in the car overnight can harm its battery. Cold temperatures can decrease the battery life by more than 50% because it permanently damages the charging cells. Here are some other tips to keep your device in good shape all year:
- Protect your screen: Avoid putting papers or other items between the screen and the keyboard. While it might be convenient, your computer isn't a folder, and this can damage your screen.
- Transport your device closed and without accessories attached: When you carry the device by the screen with the keyboard hanging, it damages the hinges and leaves the device vulnerable to impacts. If you leave accessories like the charger or a flash drive plugged in, it damages the ports which means they may stop working.
Restart your computer regularly: To keep your MacBook running smoothly, restart it from time to time. This helps stop background programs, which can slow down your computer and drain the battery.
Charge your device at home: Charging your MacBook at home saves you time and money. Your battery should last around 15-20 hours on one charge, as long as you don't have too many programs running or it froze int he car 🙂. Plus, charging at home helps prevent the need to replace a charger that has been "permanently borrowed," which can cost $50!
Check the handbook for other possible fees you might be responsible for.
- Stay updated with Mosyle: Mosyle Updates come through as banners on your device and allow you to control when software updates happen on your computer. This way, your computer won't shut down unexpectedly for an update -you can choose a time that works for you.
It's always frustrating when your tools stop working, so make these tips a regular practice. Both you and your computer will be happier for it!

WINTER CHEER TRYOUTS
MEADE COUNTY TEEN COURT
Volunteering involves going to Deadwood on court nights (2nd and 4th Monday of the month). There is possible transportation if they have enough volunteers and eventually add in Meade County on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. Court starts at 4:45 PM and it is our goal to have kids out of the court house no later than 7 PM. The students will do mock trials to get the comfortable and then will take actual cases as they come. We have attorneys who will work with the students to teach them some basics about how to read and interpret cases/law as well courtroom procedure.
Currently volunteers earn $250/year for scholarship funds. This last year, two scholarships were given, one for $750 and another for $500. We have court on November 13th and November 27th next month and may need to add court dates.
If you are interested in this program, please stop and see Mr. Sullivan or Mrs. Kaufman.
