A Smooth Start
Lawrence learners are ready!
Focus of learning in a SAFE environment
As Lawrence began our school year with professional development for our staff one of the most important topics was our safety plans and a review of safety regulations from the state.
A link to District Safety is on our website but I would like to point out several important points:
1. All schools are ‘closed’ campuses. This means if you are coming to school you must call and make an appointment. Once at school you must use the designated security entrance and are required to show your ID. Please respect the hard work our security team does by adhering to this rule.
2. We conduct mandated drills throughout the year. This year, notification of the drills we have, will occur in two ways:
Within a week prior to a drill ( fire drill ( evacuation) or lockdown ) Parents will be notified via text that a drill will be conducted, but not giving specifics as to when.
During LOCKDOWN drills the announcement will now include the word “Drill”. This significant change in the choice of words helps address the law regarding a traumatic impact to ease concerns.
As the nation started school we are horrified to see the news of school threats of violence and the Georgia shooting and deaths. Please know that safety is always our priority in Lawrence.
If your child(ren) have any concerns, reach out to your school and our teams, as always, are here to support them.
