π² Parkview 4th Graders Take on Winter! βΊ
On January 16th, Parkview 4th graders in Tammy's class embarked on the 2nd Annual Outdoor Winter Survival Day, an exciting hands-on activity tied to their Literacy Unit on extreme environments and the novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. This unique experience also serves as inspiration for students as they begin writing their own Survival Stories this spring.
π Preparing for Adventure
The students started by reviewing "The Outdoor Survival Guide" and creating packing checklists to ensure they had essentials like blankets, snacks, water, and first aid supplies.
π² Into the Forest
When the day arrived, students ventured into the Parkview School Forest. They pitched a tent for their base camp, built shelters with rope and tarps, read Hatchet aloud, gathered kindling, and enjoyed roasting S'mores over a (contained) fire.
For many, it was their first experience with camping, fire-building, and creating shelters. The unanimous verdict from the students? Future 4th graders will love this day!
π₯ Watch the Video:
The students were thrilled to share their favorite moments from the dayβcheck out their reactions in the video below!
A huge thank you to Tammy for creating this incredible learning opportunity and to Amanda, 4th-grade parent and Parkview Para, for providing the delicious Sβmores!
