March 2024 Hawk Talk
Hello Maple Hill Hawk Families,
As we step into the month of March, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. Your dedication to your child’s education is truly commendable, and it continues to inspire us every day.
March brings with it a sense of renewal and anticipation as we transition from winter to spring. It’s a time for growth, both academically and personally, and I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates and events happening at Maple Hill Elementary this month:
Read Across America Week: From March 4th to March 7th, we will be celebrating Read Across America Week, a nationwide event honoring Dr. Seuss’s birthday and promoting the joys of reading. Throughout the week, students will engage in various literacy activities and themed dress-up days to foster a love of reading and storytelling. Be sure to check the newsletter for details on each day's theme!
Spring Break Reminder: As we approach the end of March, please remember that Spring Break will take place from March 29th - April 7th. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to relax, recharge, and spend quality time together. We encourage you to make the most of this break while also ensuring your child engages in some light reading or educational activities to keep their minds active.
Safety Reminders: With the weather warming up and outdoor activities increasing, I want to remind everyone to prioritize safety at all times. Please ensure your child follows safety protocols while playing outdoors and walking to and from school. Additionally, continue to reinforce the importance of hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette to prevent the spread of illnesses.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support and commitment to our school community. Together, we will continue to nurture a love for learning and create a positive environment where every child can thrive.
Warm regards,
Ms. McNeil
Principal at Maple Hill

February's Hawk Character Trait: Fairness
Our SEL enrichment lesson this month will be on fairness. We will have a meaningful discussion on how your child can act and play fairly. We will also be discussing how fair it might be for different people. For example, a younger sibling might have different chores than their older sibling because that is what is fair for them. It is so important for our kiddos to understand how to be fair, even when a grown-up isn’t watching. Some great discussions with your child about being fair include taking turns and waiting in line, ensuring rules are followed in the classroom, on the playground, and during games, sharing community materials evenly, and being honest. Thank you so much for your support!
Family Book Guide and Discussion Ideas:
Reading books about what fairness looks and sounds like can start up great conversations about equality, justice, and fairness.
