Dear AMS Parents and Families,
May is here! We’ve just wrapped up an eventful and rigorous month of April, filled with many moments worth celebrating. From our Spring ROCK Shop and Raffle to the start of spring testing, our students have truly risen to the occasion. We are incredibly proud of their consistent effort—not only in showing their Positivity Project character strengths and upholding our ROCK expectations, but also in their dedication to learning, staying engaged in class, and completing their assignments with care and responsibility.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our amazing PTSO volunteers, whose time and energy helped make the Spring ROCK Shop & Raffle a memorable and meaningful experience for our students.
This month, we have a variety of fun and engaging activities and field trips planned. We will also be continuing our MStep testing and make-ups through May 16th. If you have any questions regarding MStep testing, please refer to our April AMS Parent Update for additional information about the assessments and resources for parents.
Your child will also soon participate in NWEA MAP Growth testing, an adaptive assessment that helps teachers understand what students know and what they are ready to learn next. These tests are given in reading and math and adjust in difficulty based on your child’s responses, providing personalized insight into their academic progress.
Testing Schedule: Please see the AMS spring testing schedule below. To support your child, we recommend ensuring he or she gets a good night’s sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time and ready to do his or her best.
Families can learn more about NWEA MAP Growth and explore helpful resources at NWEA's Family Toolkit, which offers guides, videos, and FAQs. Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s learning!
Thank you for your partnership in ensuring a smooth and successful testing experience for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
EXCITING NEWS🎉🎉🎉: We are excited to announce that AMS students will experience an awesome outdoor assembly event to honor and celebrate their hard work and perseverance during testing season. On Monday, May 12th, our students will experience the Big Air BMX Show🚴🏻♀️ which features some of the world’s top Pro BMX athletes in a 40-minute unforgettable action-packed school assembly. Our students and staff will LOVE the show as the athletes will also deliver powerful positive messages about persistence, determination, and finding what drives us. This show and message are well-received and appropriate for students of all ages. Students are encouraged to bring a small blanket or pillow to sit on as this event will be held outdoors, and students will be seated on the grass adjacent to the back parking lot.
IMPORTANT ~ Please note: After-school student pick-up will look a bit different on Monday, May 12th as a portion of the back parking lot will be secured for the BMX event. Please follow the cones and direction from our School Resource Officer and staff members. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work together to provide a safe exit and pick-up for our students and families that afternoon.
Thank you, parents, for doing your part to support and encourage your child(ren) to come to school every day ready to ROCK! We sincerely appreciate your continued partnership in your child's education. It is my personal goal to ensure EVERY AMS student finishes the school year off strong. GO RAIDERS!
With warmest regards,
Barb Lewis
Your Proud AMS Principal
Positivity Project (aka P2)
Bi-weekly P2 family letters are sent to you via email outlining the character strength we are learning about and practicing in school and ways you can support your child at home. Students are participating in enriching team- and relationship-building activities, and students and staff continue to wear and share positivity in our schoolwide mission to "KEEP IT POSITIVE!"
🛑🛑 IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER FOR DROP-OFF & PICK-UP 🛑🛑
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
In an effort to ensure the safety of all students, families, and staff, please adhere to the parking lot expectations and guidelines as follows:
- YIELD for students crossing. We have three "crosswalks" as indicated on the map above. Please drive slowly and carefully look for students crossing the lot. We have one new crosswalk on the west end of the building, plus we have many middle and high school students crossing the lot before and after school at the areas indicated above. All drivers are required to YIELD for pedestrians.
- When pulling your vehicle around the loop, please be sure to pull as far ahead as possible to ensure we fit as many cars into the drop-off and pick-up zone as possible. Please watch carefully for students crossing the lot, and please do not block the crosswalk.
Thank you in advance for adhering to our drop-off and pick-up expectations and guidelines to ensure the safety of all students, families, and staff.
