PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Trojan Families,
At Northwestern High School, we are always striving to enhance the student experience and create an environment where every student thrives. You’ve likely heard the terms climate and culture, but what do they truly mean for our school?
🔥 Climate is the mood of our school: the energy, the atmosphere, and how it feels to be a part of NHS.
🔥 Culture is our lifestyle: the values, habits, and traditions that shape who we are as a community.
Our goal? A climate of Academic Excellence and a culture of Leadership Excellence.
How can we elevate what we have? Where it’s missing, how can we ignite it?
Language shapes our reality, and when we align our words with our actions, we create a stronger, more unified Trojan community. Let’s commit to fostering an environment where excellence isn’t just encouraged, it’s expected!
Stay tuned for more updates on how we can continue to grow together!
Enjoy your long weekend as there is no school for students Friday, March 14 (District Holiday) or Monday, March 17 (Teacher Workday).

ENROLL, ENLIST, EMPLOY
Seniors should be considering what they are planning to do after graduation in just a few short months. It's ok to not have a definitive plan right now, but they should be thinking about all of the available options-tech or trade school, college, military, or career opportunities. Students may speak with their school counselor or our career counselor for assistance.

Tips from Nurse Sadie
Here are a few things parents can do to help our schools reduce the spread of illness:
Don’t send children to school if they are sick. Any children who are sick at school will be sent home. Staying home when sick will allow your children to rest and allow you to monitor their health closely.
Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or upper sleeve when you cough or sneeze.
Take time to get a flu vaccine. Flu vaccination is the best way to prevent the flu. SCDPH strongly recommends all South Carolina residents older than 6 months old get the flu vaccine as soon as possible to prevent the flu, unless they have a medical reason not to be vaccinated.
Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils.
Know the signs and symptoms of the flu and Covid.. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit, 37.8 degrees Celsius or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea.
Do you have a student concern?

PARENT PORTAL
Please be sure to log in to PowerSchool to keep up with students' academic progress and attendance. The system is live, so as teachers are updating grades and attendance, you can see it immediately. You may also set up notifications for Parent Portal to contact you about your child's progress on a weekly basis, daily basis, or anytime a new grade or attendance code has been entered.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
- Students must be present for at least 60 minutes to get credit for attending class.
- Parents may submit up to three parent notes per semester or a total of 6 per school year. If your student is absent, please submit an excuse to nwabsencedocumentation@rhmail.org within three days of the absence.
