MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
This week we launched our “Superintendent for a Day” series, and Dr. Crystal Waterman did a phenomenal job leading the District for the day! I even spent the day as the Edward Williams School principal! Our building leaders are so dedicated to our students, and I know they have all the qualifications and more to lead at the District level. This exchange of roles helps our building administrators to grow and learn, and it allows me to spend more time in the schools supporting teachers, staff and students.
Our EMT training program is in full swing, and the students are making great progress in their learning. The rigor of the program, combined with the certification they can receive, make it a great opportunity for our students. The Career and Technical Education Department continues to grow, giving our scholars more and more opportunities and preparing them for a variety of careers and academic institutions.
Happy Autism Acceptance Month! Our autistic students are important to this District, and we stand by our belief that all scholars can learn. People with autism do amazing things every day, and that should be celebrated. Pennington School celebrated World Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday, and it was inspiring to see so many wearing blue in recognition of the day.
I would also like to feature one of our outstanding seniors this week, Margaret Djamongue from Mount Vernon STEAM Academy. Margaret, who is in the Smart Scholars program, has been a hardworking student during her entire time in the District. She sets a great example and is involved in school activities such as the No Place for Hate Committee at her school. She has earned her scholarships, and I am so proud of her accomplishments. I know she will finish this year strong and go on to do great things!
Happy Ramadan and Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate!
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
